Hi, I'm back:p:

Should I go for Chads? I like the idea of a small, communityish college near the city centre and (from what I can see) has lots of formals. But would I have to share a room? :s-smilie:

Or should I go for Hild Bede? I like the idea of it having big grounds and from what I can gather from the website it is mostly made up of single rooms. Also I'm worried I'd feel claustraphobic in a small college.

Realistically I'm not sure how likely a visit is before putting my application through..

Thanks!

I'm going to Chad's soon so I can let you know how I get on if you like  but yep, I think pretty much everyone shares a room.

You'd have the possibility that you might have to share a room wherever. The only places that guarantee a single room are JB (self-catered) and Mildert.
Hild Bede is a long way away from everything (well, ish... in Durham terms which actually means not at all)
I really would recommend a visit if you possibly can, though I understand that it's not that likely. Ultimately it's up to you, and which you think would be better. Sorry I couldn't be more help, but I hope I'll see you at DUCA events next year

Oh I see. Yeah, I'll have to try. I haven't even seen the place yet it's my first choice. I hope I don't hate it when/if I get round to seeing it! :o:

Although it is my first choice, even over Cambridge :s-smilie:

aw, don't worry. I applied and was fairly certain it was my first choice when I'd only been to Durham once, and that was a good few years before applying. But I applied, adored it at the open day, had a bit of a panic over grades and college on results day, and here I am

And you won't hate it. 'Tis a beautiful place.

Best of luck

Too many people applying. Bad enough with law isn't it? My course at Durham asked for BBB but we're probably bringing the university down...:ninja:

I absolutely cannot (and refuse) continue with my fourth. I'll end up with an E or something:rolleyes:

Well take Maths or something easy (as in actual material volume) in night class for a year. Spread your risk about.

lol i remember seeing it was going down and getting QUITE freaked out. my friend and i sent outraged emails to the uni, but they replied and said we'd be getting the same. so that's ok, although yeah it's not going up to match the fees... huh. they said that it wasn't intended to match the cost of fees, which is clearly a lie, as it went up exactly the same amount last year. then they got a bit shirty and were like, well, we dont have to give you as much as we do, we're really generous etc... sad for the new students though, who dont get as much. it's still quite good but it was much better for us. plus the whole postcode thing is absolute crap anyway. chuh.

DANI! HELLO! um. That's all I wanted to say

Hey could a current student help me with a few college choice issues?
Do Scientist's living in city colleges feel a bit out of it, as they are pretty far from the lectures etc? It it a lot of hassle to travel to the science area from the city frequently?

I believe if your going to apply to Durham, its just gotta be the castle :p: but apparently there are 3,000 applicants every year for it  doesn't that make it near impossible to get in? how do they choose who to accept?

If your definition of 'hassle' is a five minute walk...

Each college has a quota for each subject. If you're doing an unpopular subject (like me ) then you'll have more of a chance .
