They are doing all the updates this week, which is a lot better than doing it in term time.
Got to do my photo tomorrow and hopefully I can register for my additional module - found one I like that is open and want to get in quick. Looks like I can't study any law modules, despite saying open, the prerequisites for them are tied modules that only law students study. Unless, there is an exception to those who study from outside the respective department or school?
Oh and I need to confirm my tax code. Mine is different to my brother's and we are both 18+ and living with our parents, one job etc.

The email and phone systems are still working, get in touch with people that way. Photos can wait.
i'm a current student, but not sure where to find out...
you know how you can change the modules you've registered for, at the start of term? ... well, is there any way you can do that before term starts? i've signed up for one module but have decided to change it. dyou reckon i'll have to wait til term for the office to process my change of module form, or can i do it before then? as i can get over to durham any time from home.

thankies to anyone who might know
Have you tried phoning SPA? Their contact details are on the website.
I've just discovered that a new module I wanted to take which wasn't on the timetable clashes with another of my modules....they overlap by 15 minutes, what kind of a timetable is that???? Why have lectures which are an hour and 15 minutes long?????

Is that Christian Hope and First Urban Churches by any chance? It is a weird-looking timetable. But they'll move one of them once they realise that there are people registered for both; they moved New Testament Theology last year because it clashed for a few people also taking first year Hebrew.
Actually, quite a lot of people I know at Durham joined, but also, a lot of them don't do anything with it. (Then again, I also know quite a lot of people who are very involved in the DUS, but I guess that comes from being involved in student politics too).
You can also get involved in the Durham Union Society if you're not political: I'm very involved and am not (and never intend to be) a member of any student political party. Likewise for most of my colleagues on the Union Society exec. The important thing is enthusiasm!

Just curious, how easy is it to get a position on a committee. How much competition is there?
Having just looked at the website your term looks pretty amazing and well thought out. I am looking forward to it.

Well I emailed Margaret and she said she thinks I'm going to need to change...I emailed back questioning the weird timetable...
Next term I am literally going to see how many societies I can be physically involved in, and do it. Hopefully the several things I have in mind (including DUS) will all fit...
The great thing about the DUS is we've got stuff on virtually every day of the week. So if you can't make a Friday night debate, come to a Thursday night address or the Sunday night bar quiz...you can just drop in and out!
Although I think the first debate may be the only thing that will be open for all. If Wez is around somewhere he may be able to confirm that...?
The first address (the Sudanese Ambassador defending his government's war crimes record in darfur) is also open to all. It's on the Thursday of Freshers' Week. Come along and see if you enjoy it! x
The majority don't join, but myself and Aula are both members.
Actually, alot of people do join the DUS over the three years. On average one in three undergraduates are members...making a total of about 3000 students

I'd put money on them changing it. It's completely unfair of them to make two modules at the same level clash, particularly when there was no timetable information for Christian Hope when we had to pick our modules, and I'm sure there will be more people than just you and me registered for both.
This might sound really ridiculous, but what's the ultimate frisbee scene like at Durham?
Honestly, it's my favourite sport in the world and one I'm actually alright at. =P Is there a particular college which is known for its ultimate frisbee team?

I have seen people playing it so I think some colleges must have teams, but I can't really tell you more than that as I am useless about sport.

I wasn't implying anything the other way around, just that people who are involved in politics are often also involved in the DUS too - most (if not all) of the people I can think of involved in DUCA are also in the DUS, and most of them are quite involved rather than, like me, someone who turns up for debates and addresses. Next term looks good. I'm looking forwards to it
Next term's going to be fun. I'm not sure I'm going to have enough time to study...

Grey is probably your best bet for Frisbee- I believe the sport got started in Durham because of Grey, and we're the only college to have three frisbee teams.
How much do people usually spend in a week? Right now I'm budgeting for £70 a week... Too much? Too little?
Unless you are a heavy drinker/ extreme partier or have expensive hobbies, way too much. £40 a week should suffice for most people, if you spend wisely.
