In Trevs you're supposed to share for one term. A lot of people I know didn't share at all. Equally if you really loved it, you could share for all three terms.

Haha, in Trevs you have to serve eachother at formal too. I'm so glad I'm at Castle.

Only if you were unlucky to get it instead of a saturday/sunday. You can always pay someone else to do it...

It is indeed ******* lame that freshers have to serve though.

Reply 1562

Haha do they really?! Trev's is practically communist Russia!

Are there any pound shops/cheap shops in Durham at all? I'm skint.

Reply 1564

The £ store in The Gates is pretty good for a £ store... does depend what you're after though!

Reply 1565

The pound shop on North Road was good, but it had a closing down sale and closed.

It then opened up again, but had another closing down sale within a month. I assume it's still closed.

Reply 1566

Yup, still closed. Home Bargains up at the top of Gilesgate next to Tesco is brilliant for just about everything, but a bit of a trek if you're not living out around there!

Where abouts is Gilesgate in relation to the centre, and how long would it take to walk?

Thanks

I'm guessing it'd take about 30 minutes to walk there from the centre, if you're a fast walker. I dunno, I usually just take my car :p: there's buses that go up to Gilesgate though that might help.

Reply 1569

64 bus goes up to Gilesgate from North Road.

Savers is reasonable for toiletries/household goods. Also, as others have mentioned, Poundland in The Gates.

Anything I need that is cheaper than getting it from a supermarket. I'm going to have to be astute with razor blades and I hate anything other than a clean shave, which rarely happens. Other than that, deodorant and shampoo, that's about it really. I won't be spending a fortune on pot noodle that is for sure.

The £ shop doesn't help with the booze prices I am afraid. Which is most peoples main expense here, asides accommodation.

I don't want alcohol. Hardly drink the stuff these days. Too much of a high tolerance level to be drinking it to get the effects/become a substance abuser.

Savers (which is also in the Gates shopping complex) is good for toiletries (generally cheaper than Boots/Superdrug or Tesco Express). Poundland does to some toiletries but their selection is always changing and can be a bit rubbish.

I don't have a membership but I've been told it's one of the best college gyms. Seems to have a lot of equipment. Membership is about £30 which is pretty steep, but if you use it a lot I reckon it would be worth it.
