Durham is quite well off with sporting faciltieis being one of the top sporty unis. So I think what you're referring to is Maiden Castle, a sports complex (and former Newcastle training ground during the Keegan years). It's about five minutes walk from the library/science site. No greater than 20 minutes from the Bailey colleges.
It's owned by the council but I think Durham have leased it since Newcastle developed their new training facilities closer to Newcastle.
If it's not Maiden Castle then I apologise.
Here's a thread about MC from a few years back. As it's not actually owned by the university then it will cost extra. I think people are under the impression it belongs to the uni.
"Our main sports centre includes a sports hall with squash courts, a recently refurbished gym, and a high performance weights room for elite athletes. Outside, there are tennis and netball courts, a 400-metre synthetic athletics track, sand and water-based hockey pitches, cricket squares, and numerous pitches for rugby, soccer and lacrosse."
Yup, sounds like Maiden Castle. There's a full list of facilities here

So, yeah, 20 minutes walk from the Bailey colleges.
The web page I quoted mentions the racecorse -
'When you get involved in sport at Durham, you'll enjoy 64 acres of beautiful, well maintained playing fields, professionally laid out for a variety of games. In particular, the Racecourse sports ground, in the heart of the City includes a first-class county cricket pitch (the West Indies tourists played the MCC here last summer), as well as fives and squash courts in the Pavilion.'
The teamdurham page you gave (which is great by the way) says
'Racecourse site which is situated less than five minutes walk from the Graham Sports Centre'

Any idea how far that is from the Bailey?
Thanks
Oops, I meant to mention the racecourse sorry I actually forgot about it until I just read about it before. Shows that I haven't spent much time in Durham lately. Although I was just at the racecourse a few weeks ago.
The racecourse is in the centre, Green Lane. It's about ten minutes walk from the Bailey and even shorter walk from a few departments (philosophy, economics, Applied social sciences). It's mainly a large, well mantained cricket pavillion but does have squash courts and things I think,
The A is the racecourse, just at the top, then you can see Maiden Castle which has the majoity of the facilities to the south/south east(ish). The small building with the athletics track and courts outside.
So racecourse is ten minutes from the Bailey, Maiden castle's twenty minutes.
Do UK universities normally? I'd ring up the http://www.dur.ac.uk/international.office/ International Office if noone on here knows. Surely being an international student in the UK would rape your face money-wise?

Cheaper here than at a lot of private universities.
So go to a public university? Also surely you get better aid/loans at American unis than Durham?
My family moved over to the UK about a year before I started uni so unfortunately my state doesn't seem to consider me a home student either and I am ****** on both fronts.

That's a bit ****. Now you get to pay through the nose

UK universities are so much better than US universities but that's just my opinion. And it is true that some UK universities are cheaper because most courses are only three years. And the whole Greek system in America, I don't get it.

You won't go to a US university because you don't get the Frat/sorority thing? Weird. I hated them, but what do I know. why else are they so much better? I think each system has its advantages and disadvantages depending on what sort of education you want to have.

Oh, thanks. I know St. Andrews, Cardiff, and Bristol accept FAFSA.

And US universities just don't appeal to me. Also, in the US, you have to take unnecessary classes. For example, if you're taking Econ, you still have to take English, History, etc. It's just wasting time.
If you don't come to Durham you should go there (that was my intention... and this probably doesn't matter to you, but the archaeology department are lovely. They rang me a few times to find out what was happening on results day when Durham took a while to let me know what was going on.)
