I have just been out in the garden ant-killing again. It seems every few weeks I go out there and puff some ant-killer powder over them. They die before your eyes, and then you move on to the next nest. But they always come back, and now they come back in larger numbers than ever! They are destroying the garden. And check out this news report from last year- http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asi...ic/2807289.stm - they're taking over!
Arent ya supposed to ask them to leave? Just say ''please go away ants''. Or something

My mum pours boiling water in the nests and then leaves plates of jam outside the back door - the good ants will just eat the stuff from teh edges and not come inside, the greedy ants will wade into the middle and get stuck and die.

Awwww...I feel bad about doing stuff like that. Even when I left some toffee on the floor and when I picked it up it was black because it had so many ants swarming on it, I still could not kill those darn little things

Just you wait. I sense they have a master plan. Just when we think they have given up, bam, they will have taken over the world

nothing compared to some fungi which, in the right conditions (not that this would ever happen) could grow to the size of earth in less than a week.

I got bad goosebumps on my scalp the moment I read that.

I've had bad experiences with ants before.. I kept using that ant poison stuff and it worked. One day a few months later, I put on an old coat of mine. When I put my hands into the pocket, they were FULL of thousands of dead ants, queen ants and eggs. I was screaming and the scene still haunts me.

    URGH.

The Empire of the Ants is an alarming story by H G Wells about ants taking over the world...perhaps it shouldn't be let into Australia. Don't want to give them ideas...
There's also a short story by Italo Calvino about Argentine ants...
