    Hi,

I'm really worried about my AQA A2 Biology paper. I completely messed it up, especially the synoptic paper which was impossible! I was wondering if anyone would know roughly what the raw marks would be to get the corresponding UMS.

It really sux how 2 years of hard work are fitted into a couple of hours of exams!

I did AQA B. Section B was a nightmare. June 2002 raw mark for an A in this paper was 58/100. Since then the raw marks for an A have been in the range of 62-66/100.

Go on to the AQA website and have a look at the examiners reports. The raw marks and UMS conversions are included in the reports.

I don't think anyone will know until Thursday - unless there are any teachers or university admissions tutors on this site, who might be able to answer your query. My fingers are crossed for you though - I'm sure everyone found it really hard and you'll be OK At any rate, there's nothing you can do until Thursday - go out and do something fun to take your mind off it until then!

section ~B was ridiculous. i made up answers to the nectar question, and to most of the plants one (the photosynthesis one) as well. essay was alright i think, i don't know if i covered the stuff in enough depth though. i had too much to say for plants and not enough for humans on the osmosis essay

That paper was one of the hardest papers i took. Literally the whole paper was synoptic. I was so pissed off after that because it was so much harder than all the previous ecology papers.

Yup, the day after. They ask you (I think - vague memory) to confirm that you wish to take up your place - yes, I laughed out loud - and they send a letter of congratulation... can't remember if they sent freshers stuff straight away but you'll get that soon, too. And hopefully I'll find out who my kids are soon after Thursday... hurrah, letter writing time! (You'll get letters at some point from your college parents)

ooh yey!! damn i'll be doing some hurried writing then! going to vienna on the saturday morning, might have to email them last minute on friday night!

are you going to organise parent/children stuff for freshers as a whole or leave it up to the individual couples?

Most Freshers stuff is organised all together. There's a Parents and Children formal hall around the start of term, where your parents introduce you to the hallowed art of pennying (you may not remember all the rules in the morning but you should remember SOME), and generally people have a family meal as well - these two events are both organised mostly by the couples (or trios!). But apart from that your college parents are just there to give advice where it's needed and generally look out for your welfare for a bit at the start of your year

I did AQA A and the synoptic question was naaaasty - I think that module is gonna let me down but BYA6 was fab so hopefully that and my coursework will make up for it

Edit: Oh yeah, and the thing that really pissed me off was that a) It was an essay that we'd planned out before and I couldn't sodding remember it, and b) I committed the cardinal AQA sin of not mentioning plants. D'OH!

sooooo glad that most people seemed to find the Biology papers hard this year, im hoping that the grade boundaries will be lower if everyone performed lower than expected!! Want to go to Sheffield to do Biology with Genomics, so keeping everything crossed for tomorrow, good luck everyone.

boundaries will probs be as high as ever, the unit 8 paper was stolen beforehand. And the whole of our year seemed to know the essay questions going in to the exam.
