Yeh, universally.

I would say there are people who go for looks more and people who go for personality more in both genders.

Incidentally I know a lot of shallow girls, so to answer your OP, in my experience, no.

This is a massively broad generalisation.

One could equally say, men are interested in looks and women are more interested in how well that man will pay for her children and look after them.

It would be equally "right"

Why is being interested in looks shallow? It's in our instincts to be attracted by the appearance of members of the opposite sex.

When in clubs etc the first thing you notice and the only factor you have to go on initially is looks, if someone is a fat mess for example you aren't gonna be inclined to go talk to them when the top shop queen is on that dance floor.

That's not exactly what I meant. By shallow I meant I know a lot of girls who only want to be seen with the best looking lads, or the most popular ones.

On that note, both genders are interested in looks.

Girls are just as bad for that sort of thing...

I wasn't saying it was true, I just wondered what people thought on the matter.

I go for looks, i'm male. Pretty sure women go for looks aswell tho.

In my experience men often choose not to even talk to girls who they think are unattractive; girls, on the other hand, tend to (to an extent) give everyone more of a chance. However this is a Cosmopolitan-esque generalisation.

You can't generalise an entire gender. Just like some girls go for personality over looks, a lot of guys do the same.

Reply 12

Yes, because males think with their shrivelled purple girkins!!!!!!!

Reply 13

Is this going to turn into an "all men are pigs" thread?

You'll never get a job at a lifestyle magazine...

Both genders are as each other when it comes to going for looks rather than personality.

You say that like it's a bad thing....:p:

But do you know what I mean? It's like me saying "All girls are more obsessed with their own appearance than boys". It might be true for some, in each gender, but I don't think you can try do decide which wins..

Reply 17

Male, looks. Superficial, shallow, yup yup.

Reply 18

I don't know who said it before I did, but first impressions are based on looks. A completely unattractive guy/girl won't be give much of a chance to show his/her personality (very generally speaking).

hmm in the ratio:

40:40:50 for looks, body size and intelligence/personality.

very tricky because i don't want a girl to be ugly, nor for them to be fat or anorexic, but a compatible personality is a must! i'd not last a second if she didn't understand my insular remarks were a joke:p:
