All European countries should be secular, they should not help any religion but 'banning' them is extreme.
This is sign of the rise of intolerance

You're using the Daily Express, mouthpiece of UKIP as a credible source for a story on Islam...

The Express froths at the mouth if you say Islam near them. You do know that, don't you?
They can do this now? Wow.
Talk about oppression - who gave them the right to 'ban' one particular religion that's chosen to be badly portrayed, when they cannot prove that other religions are (relatively speaking) 'better'? :stupid:
Low-key inciting more hate and saying other ones are 'less worse' or at least tolerable compared to Islam -_-
How could Russia even ban Islam? There are around 20 million Muslims in Russia

Thanks - they're more credible sources. However, they clearly say that Islam hasn't been 'banned as a religion' - they've prevented it from becoming a 'official state religion'. These are two very different concepts, and I don't think it helps to blur them.

@HAnwar - any thoughts on this?
Omg wow this is absolutely marvellous news !!!!! I hope other european countries follow suit  :woo:
Not only will this increase hostility towards Muslims unbelievably within Slovakia, but it also infringes on the rights and choices people in the western world should have. How can people support suppression like this?

And @AishaGirl - thoughts? :h:
Obviously not giving subsidy to religion based on follower size is same as banning a religion.
A state should not be giving any religion a subsidy but I digress.

Huh?

They've banned it from becoming the state religion according to @Reality Check and it's not too surprising considering it's nowhere near a Muslim majority country.

However if or when a country becomes Muslim majority, policies can and will be reversed very easily.

Imagine if the UK was 70% Muslim, good luck trying to ban the Niqab or something.

You're supposed to read past the headline; or just not read any paper that thinks its readers need conveniently capitalized words in headline to understand its content. From the link:
"Parliament adopted a bill sponsored by the Slovak National Party (SNS), which requires a religion to have at least 50,000 members, up from 20,000, to qualify for state subsidies and to run its own schools."

Read the other sources, it has been banned from being recognized or registered as a religion.

Hungary and Poland look like they'll be the next to do so. Not surprising though, Eastern Europe is very anti - Islam which seems to be a growing movement across Europe.

Yes, a religion needs to have 50,000 followers to be able to be registered as a state religion and thus be able to build places of worship. There are currently 2,000 muslims in Slovakia . This, together with the unwillingness of Slovakia to accept immigration makes it highly unlikely that Islam would ever be able to meet the 50,000 requirement.

2million muslims in Slovakia? Are you mad? It's like 5,000 or something lol.

Slovakia's population is only 5.4million. Where on Earth did you pull that number from?
There are 2000 Muslims in Slovakia out of a populationon of 5 million. You have to be an exceptionally special snowflake to feel threatened by them.
Isn't it not reconized as a official religion in Italy as well? I remember reading that somewhere. I know it being not reconized and banning is different but it's sort of similar in some respects.
