West Yorkshire foundation schools

Hi everyone:smile: ,

I will be in West Yorkshire this summer starting my F1 post. I was trying to find online the minimum FP score to get into any of the hospitals in Leeds ( Leeds General Infirmary + St James’ University Hospital). Does anyone have any idea regarding the 2016 minimum FP score for Leeds hospitals?

also, has anyone worked in any of the hospitals in West Yorkshire ( Harrogate, Airedale, Bradford, Huddersfield, Calderdale, Pinderfields, Dewsbury, Pontefract)?

Thank you :P

Have no idea but I live here. If I were you I'd avoid mid Yorkshire trust. The ratings are lousy!!!!

Hey only as a medical student but I've rotated through most of the hospitals
Harrogate is nice, about an hour commute from Leeds but there was good teaching, really nice scenery, quite a wealthy local population - one of the least deprived places.
Airedale is... okay. Again, another hour-ish commute, us medical students get accomodation on site which is nice, and again it's in the middle of the dales so beautiful countryside. It's a bit run down but I think people have an okay time there. Personally, it's a place I dread getting placed but I don't know if it's different when you're working.
Bradford is good, really well supported with great teaching, most juniors seem to enjoy their time. A diverse population with interesting medical problems and lots of socioeconomic issues if that sort of stuff interests you!
Huddersfield is a bit up in the air at the moment - I think they are soon closing the A&E (if not already) and a lot of services are being scaled back, probably one to avoid!
Pinders is all new and shiny but gets terrible reviews from the juniors, work you to the bone and not well supported.
Calderdale is meant to be very well supported and good, I've only briefly been there but I can tell you parking is a nightmare.

I don't know about FP scores I'm sorry! Hope this helps.

Pick Harrogate, avoid Mid-Yorks (Pinderfields, Pontefract, Dewsbury).

Airedale/Calderdale/Bradford are supposed to be nice but generally mean you don't spend a year in Leeds.

did you get west yorks?
I've ranked most tracks but now I can't decide which i should rank higher between leeds F1 & harrogate F2, or pinders/dewsbury F1 & leeds F2
decisions decisions!
from what people have said, harrogate's supposed to be nice, but leeds for f1 is hard.
and a DGH is supposed to be better for f1 but pinders/dews have a really bad rep

My opinion:
Harrogate is a small proper DGH, well supported and you get to learn a lot because you're in DGH land, especially practical skills as an SHO, so actually it's good for F2 when you have more responsibility anyway.

Pinderfields is a DGH that thinks it's a teaching hospital, is very hectic and busy, suffers from LOTS of internal problems with bed flow and rota gaps, has very high reliance on locums and on the whole is not well supported.

Leeds actually is a teaching hospital. It's busy but doesn't have half the problems that Pinderfields has, and is moderately well supported depending on your job. There are some jobs to avoid at Leeds for sure. It's hard and busy, but not crazy.

Everywhere you'll have some challenging experiences and learn a lot, that's just being an F1. Personally I would avoid Pinderfields but really it's up to you.

Thank you do much, that's been so useful. Another dilemma now I was wondering if you (Or anybody) could help with. Bradford & Huddersfield vs Leeds & pinders/dewsbury. I'd much rather live in Leeds but can't decide if it's worth it. Apparently bradford isnt a nice place to live. Any thoughts would be really appreciated!
Thanks again

I have some friends who are considering Bradford/ mid Yorks because it's better supported and less stressful than Leeds. But they would commute from Leeds.
TBH Bradford is a **** hole, I'm staying here for placement and it grinds you down. The commute isn't too bad but be prepared for road rage as no one can drive.

Hello

I've just noticed your post about living in Bradford. I've studied here in Bradford and I've lived in the area for a fair few years.

As with most places there are some nice and some not so nice areas. The City Centre is compact and has a good variety of shops and places to eat. City Park is lovely, especially in Summer, and there's a lot of countryside and World Heritage sites in the surrounding areas.

This Twitter page has some good photos of different things happening locally https://twitter.com/HiddenBradford

Good luck making your decision

I lived in Bradford in my FY1 year. I have have the luck/privilege of living all over the UK. As for Bradford, it is the worst place I have ever lived, it is an utter cess pit and I would strongly advise anyone not to live their.

There is still racial tension in Bradford, and you can see it between the different groups of people. I was nearly attacked three times within one year. That has never happened to me anywhere else I lived.

Avoid Bradford at all costs, it's the arm pit of the UK
