Portsmouth has a larger number of students and is a bigger city - so if you're looking for a city student experience then that's probably a better option.

Winchester is a lovely city but it is fairly small (and the student population is small relative to the non student population). There's still going to be a "student life" and both universities have active student unions but you might find you end up travelling into Southampton or somewhere else for "big" nights out.

It really comes down to what suits YOU - are you used to a big city or not and are you looking to live somewhere different to your current home? When you visited which felt more comfortable to you?

Why not arrange to stay over at both over the easter break? You could ask to be put in touch with some current students to get a feel for what is available (although in the holidays there will be fewer students around and those that are might be working hard ready for exams).
