yes PLEASE DO, because its very simple to me. HOW CAN THE UNIVERSITY TELL HIM THAT HIS LNAT SCORE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH WHEN THEY ACCEPTED DENOVO WITH THE SAME RESULT AND LESSER GRADES. ILL TELL YOU WHY, BECAUSE OF HIS BLOODY NATIONALITY. YOU ALL OBVIOUSLY CANT SEE IT BECAUSE YOU ARE ENGLISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! APART FROM AULA

sorry to bring deNvo up again. but he got 20 in the LNAT. my friend got 20 aswell, yet he received an email saying his LNAT score was the reason he did not achieve a place. explain that please?

Fair enough. But that is one person, one application. It was probably the most generic inoffensive reply that they could think of.

I highly doubt it's because he's Irish. The basis for your whole argument is that English admissions tutors hate the Irish. But why limit hatred to such a narrow group? Why not other nationals that are not English? It just doesn't make sense. And no one is putting words in your mouth. It is the conclusion that any normal person will come to, given what you said earlier.

Edit: The LNAT reason was given to people who applied to Oxbridge even though they accepted students with lesser scores. And these applicants who got rejected were English. Just saying.

Because although the other candidate had the same LNAT he had a better personal statement? Or better work experience?

Therefore it follows that to be allowed in with the quality of personal statement your friend did, he would have to make up for it with a better LNAT. Which he didn't.
oh yea like oxford dont discriminate against state schoolers, hmmmmmmmmmmmm 79 ppl achieved places at oxbridge from westminster last year. Another coincidence? I think not. I thaught reblet would never succumb to the derogatory terms. Incase you havent noticed - EVERYBODY LOVES THE IRISH, we are widely regarded as being the most friendly people about, anywhere we go, we are loved, which is more than the Englsih can speak of.

Indeed, I'm half Welsh, quarter Irish, quarter English (and a tiny bit Scottish)
Discrimination against the Irish does not exist. Discrimination against international students does not exist.
Presumably, de.novo had a better personal statement, maybe had better experience. Presumably they decided that de.novo would make a better student here than your friend. Life is tough sometimes, but you have to make do.

I put down my "ethnic background" down as White - Irish.... THAT'S WHY I DIDN'T GET INTO OXFORD!!!

I put down I'd rather not say :p:

Calm down kevster haha you'll give yourself a hernia. Yeah I am English but that doesnt mean I dont see discrimination as well as someone who isnt English does. Methinks you need to get into the wider world, my friend, you might learn something.

And anyway, maybe the 'LNAT score wasnt good enough' was just a generic response they gave out without really wanting to get into details as to why he didn't make it. Surprisignly enough, some unis just cant be bothered to give insightful feedback.

Really, seriously, relax, you might pull something.

p.s. four people from my state school got into oxbridge. pretty impressive, with our schools record.
says alot about durham then

Oh please... no. they don't. It just so happens that the better candidates tend to be from private schools.
which is more than the Englsih can speak of.

that's true enough... especially within Britain outside England... :p:
Discrimination against the Irish does not exist.

How in the name of **** can you back that up???

can I just ask you to clarify who you're replying to there please (since you've not quoted) What says a lot about Durham?

I have Irish friends. They have not been discriminated against. And you are making one of those generalised sweeping statements that only narrow-minded people with insecurities about their own position in the world seem to make.
kevster
yea your right Aula, why not hop over to the university of Manchester thread and see for yourself. There is people getting offers to study medicine with grades like 5 A's 4B's and 3C's and not even striaght A's at Alevel!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's an absolute disgrace. How can you defend manchester not giving him an interview, for god sake he would have gotten one at oxford and came close to an offer if he had of applied.

Kevster, there are plenty of people who are brilliant at academia, that does not always make them good doctors. A friend of mine has almost perfect grades, but little common sense (which is what makes him so damn amusing). Nice guy, but would be a hopeless medic...

I love the fact kevster moans about everyone hating and discriminate against the Irish and then declares everyone loves them... One or the other my friend. You can't claim to be loved by all but discriminated against by all at the same time.

So tell us about your friend's C.V.

Haha kevster neg repped me! How funny.

Two silly neg reps by morons in one day, at this rate I'll have no reputation left at all! Oh noes!

Why does kevster bother coming here? No one is going to believe his stupid/childish idea about the Irish not being wanted in English universities. So why bother even trying?

With Oxbridge its very fishy. Particularly in Oxford. Its about presentation rather than actual ability...

I'm asking you, who in the name of **** to say that discrimination. Have you got some insider knowledge that we all dont. care to use any evidence, at least im providing some.
Reply 2139
Your evidence is indesputable kevster... haha.

I do hope your friend will take tips from you when he becomes a lawyer...
