*sigh* it begins.

Please please please please please please please please PLEASE just be patient. I know it's hard to be, but if you go asking around for people getting confirmations as soon as they get one you'll be worried about you not getting one. If you simply don't ask anyone about what they've got then you won't worry.

YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE LOST!

Chill out.

Chill out.

Just see if you will still be saying that after you have seen 10,000 posts all saying ''When will I hear back from Durham''.

It gets very irritating, especially since there is no concrete answer to the question.

Yay! I applied with an interest in Geography, Psychology, Philosophy and Math. Too many I presume, but I couldn't resist.

If you don't want to see posts about applications etc. don't look in the applicants thread, then you won't get irritated.

Well thanks for that great advice there matey

We look in the applicants thread because people do sometimes ask useful questions which we, as current (or past) Durham students, can answer. We're not all grumpy b**tards who sit here getting annoyed at people who post questions about Durham - we know you have questions, we have been in your position before (some of us more than once!).

But in all honesty, you don't need to clog the forum up with questions which if you really think about it, isn't going to change anything. If I said I got mine in November, then it would worry people if they hadn't gotten theirs by December, there's really no correlation to when you get your offer and what department/college you applied to. So just be patient and it will (hopefully) come eventually

Plus, if you become a regular here at TSR Durham, in a few years time you'll be sitting here grumping at the applicants too, hehe

Subject: Physics (Masters)
College: Grey

There don't seem to be many others for physics - is it heavily subscribed?

I think Physics at Durham is quite heavily-subscribed. I think I'm right in saying that the average offer has gone up to AAA in recent years, and Durham has one of the best Physics depts in the world. Best in Britain by an absolute mile, so I'm led to believe.

I wouldn't quite go that far, but anyway.

although physics nationally is undersubscribed and applications are falling, durham physics applications are actually increasing in number. Hence the AAA typical offer now (In my day it was AAB)
Becca, what was your offer?
K - thanks.

I'm quite sceptical about the 'best in britain by a mile' business considering Cambridge and Imperial, but i know it has a good reputation.

From reading some of the other threads it sounds like they like to interview for physics so i should get prepared for a long trip at some point (if i even get an interview).

I think becca is exaggerating since her boyfriend is a physics graduate

Physics does interview in some cases but its nothing like an oxbridge interview, its not a grilling. The only reason they make you come up and stay overnight is so that they can sell the place to you. In 99.99% of cases, if you get an 'interview' you will receive an offer.
