I rang up Admissions today (took about 15 calls to get through) who told me that all the offers/ rejections have been finalised and are simply waiting to be updated on UCAS.

Got told that I have an unconditional, but they still don't know which college (i.e. not Castle )

Will not accept hatfield on principle... :aetsch:

congrats on your unconditional! i wonder if this ^ is the case for all departments?

OMG

Quinapalus - which department were you on the phone to?!?!?!?!

Hedda.Gabler - argh i wonder too!!!
Modern languages - but I think she implied this was true for all the departments. But don't take my word for it.

Thanks HG - got to admit I'm thinking about Edinburgh instead though... Seems so much more alive. Feel free to dispute this!
Argh did she say WHEN it will come up on UCAS???

Congratulations to you tho, i'm very very jealous! And now very excited when i add this to the whole "fee assesment" thing....
No - but judging my Durham's efficiency it might not be for another few days. I'd ring them up if I were you - the modern language secretary is ill but I was given this number instead : 01913343449, and the woman I spoke to had all the information in front of her.

Good luck!

I've probably annoyed them enough as it is with phoning and emailing them!

But i might call on monday if i dont hear anything before then!

Was that no. only languages related? not that i am going to ring again anytime soon. I LOVE Edinburgh, it is definitley more lively ( well it is a capital city after all) but it was that little bit too far away for me, also it is v.expensive for housing AND lasts 4 years. Have you visited both?
Five years for me (MFL). Am going to both of them for first time next week so can't really say definitely until I've been - am really just relying on what friends say and a romantic attraction that I have always held towards Edinburgh. Also want to get quite seriously involved in theatre so suspect Edinburgh would be the best place for that.

What does 'no.' mean? Excuse my TSR naivety...

You'll enjoy Mildert. They have this massive lake. With ducks... and ducklings. :tufts:
DUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah ive seen - but it looks dirty

dont wana fall into it when im drunk x
Reply 2992
:lolz: Yeah that was what I was wondering. Given the ducks and all, wouldn't that lake smell if not cleaned regularly. But, I believe it was Itchynscratchy that said he didn't smell anything funky from the lake. So it's all good. I doubt you will fall into it when you're drunk. Unless you're seriously pissed.
Dont get drunk and fall in..... you might hurt the

DUCKS!!!!!

I got in to Mildert. Yayz x

Told you so! :p:

Congrats

To the person talking about getting involved in theatre - Durham has a FANTASTIC theatre scene. Seriously there are about 10 zillion plays/musicals/operas going on at any one time, so loads to get involved. Also they always seem to be going off to the Edinburgh festival anyway, so I wouldn't worry about a lack of theatre stuff in Durham.
They probably did read your statement (so long as your grades were good enough). It's just they don't want to use resources to give detailed feedback (resources current students are paying for!), which seems fair enough.

There is an aspect of ability and an aspect of luck in the admissions process (I don't think anyone would dispute this?)

(what were the main points of your argument?)
resources the government is providing most of the funding for, fyi. it's a publically funded institution, so there is no reason to treat it the same way you would a job interview at a private company. it would hardly be the most disgusting waste of resources imaginable too. are other universities so much more impoverished than oxford?

but i think i've made my argument enough times, and i better stop before i get another (unsigned) neg rep. don't think i could handle that

Oxford dont really give meaningful feedback either, out of about 10 people in our school, 1 got something useful back, the rest were in effect automated letters.
Also most other unis dont have stacks of money lying around so they can pretend to interview applicants...

What argument? It doesnt seem like you have persuaded anyone.
great. now we can turn the subject to your unhealthy obsession with oxbridge admissions - talk about sour! it's an immeasurable better system than durham's first one out the hat method [not really, but you get what i mean]. durham's not even second best for PPE yet it's rejecting successful Oxford applicants.

as i recognised in the bit you just quoted.

What makes you think Oxbridge have better admissions than Durham, or better courses. In lots of cases it is probably the other way around.

Do Durham do the HAT? Didn't think so.
