Durham Applicants 2008 Thread

Grr not me...I would feel far more comfortable going up to Cambridge with an offer from Durham, it is starting to feel more and more like an all or nothing situation lol!! I know they take a long time though, a friend got his offer for Chemistry after he was made an offer by Oxford lol. :smile:

Online they said offer was minimum BBB and they gave me an offer of AAB in any 4 A-levels

Has the standards changed as there are so many people applying or has anyone got a lower offer than me for business

I'm predicted AAAB

Congrats on the offer! Thats quite a jump though from BBB to AAB!
It wouldnt be unusual for a uni to ask for maybe a grade higher than the normal requirements. Maybe there was just a lot more applicants this year...who knows? :confused:

Sometimes they give you an offer that matches your predicted grades so that you don't relax and do worse in your A-levels than you should.

I have had an offer for Natural Sciences to include Chemistry... but not straight Chemistry. I wouldn't worry - they are apparently usually really slow.

Makes sense afterall - though sometimes the opposite may happen, low offer to not put you under pressure when they think you're good and want you regardless!

My brother's doing a chef's course after doing his GCSEs - and they gave him an unconditional offer before he sat them. The result? Well, let's say he might have problems in the future in no having 5 A-Cs :\

No not at durham - at a college in London. I was just making a comparison to how the effects of setting offers on people can be. I could have instead that a friend from sixth-form got an offer of CCC from Bristol where the standard offer was AAB (or maybe it was D's, I forget) which was where he wanted to go anyway so it all worked out well for him.

Sorry if I caused some confusion! But maybe if you were applying to stockton... oo lowblow! >.<

Ive got nothing from Durham so far!!!

......

admitedly I did only apply on Friday and it is now Monday. I may be SLIGHTLY keen. But still, whatever, I might as well get stressed because I will be anyway. When it comes to things like this, Im not exactly what you'd call a laid back person.
Got acknowledgments from edinburgh and st andrews which made me happy though. *sigh* im way too easy to please.

anyway....well done to all you guys you have got places!! comiserations to those who didn't. Anybody heard from anthropology department as of yet? i.e. anyone sensible enough to get their applications in nice and early unlike me...
