I'm applying to do anthropology, and at first i thought i had a relatively okay chance at getting in. The only problem is that i have already done my A-levels and a number of people have told me that although the offer is ABB, they get enough applicants applying with predictions of AAA that they can chose to ignore anyone with lower grades.

This may or may not be true but I would really like to know if anyone knows anything on the matter - as i feel at a disadvantage to be post-A level at the moment!

I have AAB at A level and 9A's 2A*'s at GCSE

Any help would be great as I don't want to build my hopes up if i don't have a chance!

I've updated again...like to keep on top of it all. I'm slightly worried that more people are applying to my college than any other and it is the smallest! :s-smilie: Oh well. I don't wan to change my mind. I did it would be to Hatfield. Hmmm?

What brought about the change Liedown? Wary of the competetiveness?

Well that but I'd also never looked at HildBede. And suddenly i became aware that it existed quite close to the anthropology sight so I thought i'd take a look. I'd liked the look of University college but competition did kinda scare me, and i have to be honest; so did the regular formals!
ANd then I just got a really good all round vibe from HildBede.

HildBede's quite big and I only know a few people so far who are going for it (im not stupid enough to believe they are the ONLY ones who are applying lol but you know what I mean, theres less of a buzz around applying there) so I hope I get in!!
hey i was wondering what are the chances of durham giving some one an offer for general engineering(Beng) if they are predicted abb eventough the entry requirment is bbb

thanks

then you should most likely be offered a place!
Hey, two of my three top colleges! You have good taste

I went for Hatfield after having a look around, but I can't help you since I'm not actually there until tomorrow!

hi! I haven't given colleges much thought either...only decided to apply there today though but i'm looking for a similar college to you...i don't want it big and it has to be old! so much more character!

Is it ok to put an open college specification, as in I don't mind where I go, or is it best to specify, and then is it best to opt for a big one/small one, old one/new one ect? Which college's would you all recommend or not recommend?
I went open. I suppose some people have their own preferences, but I wasn't bothered at all. If you had to pick, just flick through the prospectus, go on an open day, or choose at random *coughhildbedeobviouslycough*

After all, you're not going to be in a "bad" college, whatever you do. (Hopefully).

thanks! I think thats what I'm going to do! Looking at them, i don't think there is one that I wouldn't be happy in!

I went open application (and I think a good number of TSRers did), was totally fine. (well I'm not there but it seems like the one for me)

You may want to think about a few main things that are not an opinion or like, and you may not be able to get at some colleges.
Self-catered, fully catered, or half-catered(I'm not sure which meals this is)?
Ensuite or not?
Shared bedroom or not? (though so many are shared this may be fussy and you probably learn to be happy with it or only share 1 term out of 3).

I can't think of anything else that would avoid doing open application.
Old building or new - bah all are up to date and you only have to walk down the road to see a world heritage site.
Location - all are near enough to walk to the centre and lectures, even I will end up loving the gradients (I hope).
Sport - all I get from that is that every college is great and unique for it, same with friendliness, music, and such.

My offer for combined was AAB and i think thats more competitive course and so if you already have the grades i think the uni wil see that as a positive. I guess it also depends on what you did in your gap year as well.... but overall your grades seem preety good and i'm sure you've got as good as chance as any!
