How long did peoples' applications spend at the dreaded "college" stage?! Mine's been there for about a week now, and I'm going crazy! And I know it's totally irrational and inconsequential - because my worrying will in no way affect the outcome! - but I can't stop thinking about it. Damn Cuths and their damn slowness! I'm being driven insane by UCAS and Durham University!

Why is English so popular?! Hmm?! ARGH!

/\/\/\/\/\/\ me too!!
Me three :afraid: I'd be sooo happy if they gave me an offer, and I'm probably pleased it's still with them, I was guessing my rejection would be with me already.

I think we're feeling each other's pain here! :p:
Ed, andrews and durham are just killing us!! :s-smilie:
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too...the deadline's nearly here so the floodgates of offers decisions will open pretty soon!

Thanks chester I will keep my fingers crossed however many times I can for each uni for the two of us! You think somebody would have warned us before they went and applied to these three! :s-smilie: The wait is terrible!

Actually I'm quite looking forward to tomorrow and seeing the flood of decisions. If that actually happens. Knowing UCAS, it'll be more of a slightly-speedier-trickle

Do you really think there will be lots of offers tomorrow?

Firstly, I think that because the deadline is midnight, if there will be a flood it will be the day after tomorrow.

And I think either:

A) unis already "graded" applications, so that after the 15th they can give the best X number of applicants offers.
B) they will look through all the applications (not rejected) again, and will then make their decisions (this will take longer)

Nah that's why I changed it from flood to slightly-speedier trickle. I think the number might bump up a bit, or at least from the 15th onwards, people get decisions quicker.

I'm not so trusting! Haha. I don't like to think that I am going to get an offer... I'm still feeling rejectable right now :frown:

Why thank you Reblet!
Although unfortunately I can't help but envy you! :P
Have you decided where you're going to have as your insurance uni?

They're all three A offers so I'm not sure I really have one! haha.
Might e-mail Exeter and see if they ever accept people who miss the grades... Eek.
I believe in you all. Come on English Durhamites!!!

thanks for the goodwill and good luck wishes!!!!!
I'm in the same position as you, kinda... my Oxf offer is AAA as is my UCL one... so if I don't get into Durham, for which I think the offer would be AAB, then I'll have to email UCL and see if they'd accept AAB, although I doubt it... it's one of the most competitive courses in the country...
oh FIDDLESTICKS!

come ON Durham! *doesn't want to have to put Warwick as reserve*

How come you've got such a mix of course choices there? That must have been a tough personal statement to write!
Reply 1055
At least yo're accepted by the department! I've got 4As and still had 3 rejections for English so far.
This is my only application still "pending" :frown:
Reply 1056
Don't worry JBird. It will happen for you. Wait til past the 15th and it will all turn round for you.
Did you only apply to four? Good luck.

yeah, I didn't approach it as a 'write it for this course' task :P
I just wrote why I love language in general, then mentioned french and german, spoke about my love of english (and my 'voracious reading' :P) and how they all strengthen each other. Mentioned the skills.

Said my ambition was to work internationally in a political or ambassadorial role.
Talked about interests in politics, debating. Unusual hobby of bellringing.
Bingo.

*expected to get rejected for all of them*

Different unis are good for different courses, and as I definitely thought I'd get rejected by UCL for ESPS (best course EVER for me) and Oxford (a dream uni), it was a choice between combinations of english and one or both languages! Stress!
Reply 1058
Crazy fun! Couldn't you have gone for English and Modern languages for most of them? Or were you just having fun making it hard for yourself?

ha! yeah, but for Oxford, I'd have had to sit the ELat, which i couldn't do as I was on a scholarship in Germany :frown:
UCL's ESPS course is like, one of the best in't country
UCL doesn't so English and MFL or English and French at all, so English and German (plus it's the only course in the country to have comparative elements on english and german literature)
And with Warwick I just thought 'meh, cba'

:P

it could have been worse... at first, I was gonna go:

Oxford - Law with Law Studies in Europe
UCL - ESPS
LSE - Accounting ad Finance/ Economics
Durham - English and MFL
Imperial - 4yr masters in Maths with a year in France

Cause I wanted a lot of choice. Then I realised.
