Would you wise people advise against calling Durham and asking when they plan on looking at Combined Honours in Arts/Social Sciences applications?

Seeing as the guy on the phone in December blatantly lied when he said 15th Jan.

I doubt he was lying. They probably get a lot of applications.

For Combined honours in Arts? It's one of the less popular ones, and the standard offer is only AAB.

I wouldn't imagine there would have been many applications for that course before the Oxbridge deadline, anyway, which is when mine arrived there. (I was forced into that course because they don't offer English and MFL as a course).

I was told these central admissions processed the applications in the order they arrived? 122 days they've had it now!!!!

I've not seen anyone with an offer for it, so what on earth could they have been doing with our applications since 15th Jan then HMK?

sorry to say i've been told the course is extremely popular, esp.arts, as it mops up everyone wanting to do odd combinations, plus it's flexible and that's very desirable, and if there weren't many applicants we'd have all heard by now eh! run a bath, eat a bun and chill, or just keep looking at the offers you have in the bag.

Reading them, and doing academic work. I take it you want to be fully considered? Stop whining.

Do you even want to go to Durham? If not you could always withdraw your app and put in your firm and insurance.

Would I care so much if it wasn't such an important decision?

I don't want to go to Warwick, so Durham is likely to be my insurance, seeing how it would be stupid to have an AAA reserve.

OK, fair enough.

Be patient. Whining here isnt going to speed your application along. Just be glad that you are getting fully considered.

Can I ask what college you want to apply to?

It is sometimes possible to switch colleges after you've been assigned to one if you have a particular reason to not want to go there and the one you want to be in has space -- I know there are a few people here who've done it. However almost everyone is quite happy with whatever college they end up in.

I quite like the look of HildBede  It's mainly that there are some colleges I DON'T want to get into... I won't mention any names though for fear of abuse :p:

It is possible (though not a given) to switch colleges if you don't get into your original choice and you aren't happy with your reallocation. So all would not be lost.

If this is the case, then you're still behind other applicants. 136 days for Modern Languages here......

You have Oxford, there's really no need for this.

I'm not guaranteed AAA though, something could go wrong and I'd need an insurance.

You sent you app. off mid September? Nice and early. Mine was ready for the last day of August, but I waited a long time for my references.

Oo cool! Nope I haven't heard anything :frown: I sent in my application only a few days before the deadline though so I'm hoping that that has something to do with it haha.

Durham is actually my first choice because I love the collegiate system. Since I come from New Zealand I think it would be best for me to be in that kind of supportive environment.. Ha cheesy much??

Is Durham your top choice?? Congratulations on being sent to a college! Did you get sent to hildbede? I'm jealous

Phew that's kind of reassuring...

Now all I need is an offer

I'm not suggesting you don't need an insurance, but it doesn't matter whether you confirm on UCAS now or on the deadline day.

Perhaps by spending so much time complaining about Durham's 'inefficiency', you're making it more likely that you won't achieve the AAA offer. Maybe a little more focus on getting the grades would be time better spent?

And I have no intention of arguing about school efficiency. You'd think that you could be grateful they wrote a good enough one for you to get in at some amazing universities.
No need to be quite so aggressive:cool:

Someone got out of the wrong side of bed today

I didn't have any intention of arguing about school efficiency either, I was marvelling at your school. Ratty, much?
