Durham Applicants 2008 Thread

It is quite hard to sound tactful online.

And I believe 'ratty' would be moaning incessantly without reason that Durham hasn't made your application number one priority, just so that you can put it as your insurance - This is evidently not my domain.

I would hardly call it incessant moaning. If you'd shut up and stop mentioning it, you'd see I only asked if it was worth calling up, and then a reply to HMK when he said they probably received a lot of applications. What annoys me is that they haven't looked at any (seemingly) for my course yet, which is unfair.

If you dont stop whining, then I am going to email a link to this thread to the admissions tutor and you can have a swift rejection if you like.

Now that's just unkind :frown:

In case you hadn't noticed, this is the applicants' thread? I'm allowed to have a bit of a whine.
Really HMK, you're a sad tit. Piss off this thread if you're just going to annoy potential applicants, after all, the point of this thread is for applicants to discuss the process. There's no need for you to post in this thread, all you seem to do is complain that others are posting. Just don't bloody read it if it's so annoying, ******

If you are just going to whine about the university loads before you even get here then why bother coming. I would rather someone who wanted to come here got a place tbh.

Charming.

You own this thread now do you? Thought not...

Please follow your own advice. Thank you

to be fair you don't know that, you're guessing (wrongly).

You just might be at the bottom of the pile that's all. Someone has to be
This is the applicant's thread, so, although I obviously do not own it, it is designed for me and my fellow applicants to share and discuss the experience of applying. Of course it's great if current students pass on information, but that does not mean you need to whine each and every time someone either asks something that has been asked before or shares a common feeling felt by applicants (i.e. nervousness).
Please follow your own advice. Thank you
Meaning I, and no one else (as others have done), should not complain about a single persons consistent (irrelevant) complaints, that makes no sense. :congrats:

No, its designed for applicants to ask questions and discuss the university. Not to whine about it, if you want to whine and complain, please dont come to Durham. Such an attitude does not bode well at all.

Of course it's great if current students pass on information, but that does not mean you need to whine each and every time someone either asks something that has been asked before or shares a common feeling felt by applicants (i.e. nervousness).

Most normal applicants get on with their A-levels, rather than constantly checking their UCAS. As for current students passing on information, we would like students to have the courtesy to do a search before asking a question.

Meaning I, and no one else (as others have done), should not complain about a single persons consistent (irrelevant) complaints, that makes no sense. :congrats:

It was the piss off bit I was referring to. Goodbye and have a nice day...
here we go again

Once again HMK is being unnecesarily aggressive and insulting about something which really shouldnt concern him as much as it does. Quel surprise.

kiwibaby
Oo cool! Nope I haven't heard anything I sent in my application only a few days before the deadline though so I'm hoping that that has something to do with it haha.

Durham is actually my first choice because I love the collegiate system. Since I come from New Zealand I think it would be best for me to be in that kind of supportive environment.. Ha cheesy much??

Is Durham your top choice?? Congratulations on being sent to a college! Did you get sent to hildbede? I'm jealous

Thank you! Yup, Durham is my first choice but it depends on which college I get! I havent heard from which college yet, im still waiting. If i get into some colleges (wont name names) then I will be put off the idea, but if I get into some then Durham will definitely be top choice.

Im sure youll hear soon, they cant take THAT long with anthropology admissions!!

You know nothing about me. How can you decide what level something should or should not concern me, nor know exactly how much concern I have for it? Please do explain...

And aggressive no, just advising people with the wrong attitude to sod off elsewhere.

Well you do seem surprisingly irate about it, when really you dont have to look at this thread if you didnt want to. If it annoys you that much, then you dont have to read it.

You just said to me that I could not decide what level something should or should not concern you. Dont you think you're 'deciding' the same kind of thing by telling us on this thread that we 'whine too much'. You dont know us. You dont know how much/how little we want to get into Durham. You dont know about our worries over the application process, our worries in the wider picture etc. So neither can you decide on what level something (such as not hearing from durham) should concern us or not.

Back on topic, if anyone's interested, a friend of mine got a psychology offer today from Trevelyan.

There are parts of this thread I like, hence why I read it. Its some of your attitudes that annoy me.

Again, a point you cannot actually answer.

Whining at all about an institution before you even get there is way too much. For anyone.

You dont know us. You dont know how much/how little we want to get into Durham. Not entirely true for everyone who posts in this thread, believe it or not.

Again not entirely true, bear in mind I have been there. What I do know is worrying is not going to make the faintest bit of difference. Revising for your A-levels, something you all should be looking at starting (unless you are gappies of course) is something that most of you should be looking at making an impression on now.

So neither can you decide on what level something (such as not hearing from durham) should concern us or not.

No, but I can decide how much I would like those concerns shared with me

If I knew something about them, then I might be.

 Right. Ok. Please yourself HMK.

Btw, I was wondering what kind of open days you're invited to. Are they department ones, or one for the college, or one for the uni as a whole? Or do they kind of....incorporate all three?

If your application is done in time, then you will get invited to an open day in the first week of our easter. You stay overnight in college, then go around the department and explore the uni if you like. The college bit is expensive, but something I regard as a must do. If you are over 18 you can go out clubbing as well.

Bring fake ID, or if you are coming up with a friend go for a few pints around Durham when you get here. Which college are you going to?

Don't worry about not being able to go out LD. I came up for an open day a couple of years ago, and was too young to go out with the majority that did. But I still had a really great time and that open day ended up swaying my decision

Oh true, just advance warning to get around it if she wants to. If you are an interviewee its another story, we snuck a big bunch of them into loveshack last week, and they were all underage.
