Ladies... Your contraceptive pill?

I know this has been posted loads but I cant see any of the past threads.

I am not going to have my next depo injection and have decided to go onto the pill. I have heard that progesterone only would be best for me coming of depo but I dont know why. I have taken microginon 30 in the past but this made me depressed. What pills have you tried? Which suited you best? Oh and what do you do to remember to take them? Thanks so much

i was on microgynon for a few months, for regulation purposes, i never remembered to take it though, i'm crap with remembering things like that. didn't seem to have much effect on me psychologically- worked brilliantly with what it was meant to do though

Tried Microgynon and Marvelon but I didn't feel quite right. Now I use Cilest (and have done for a few years), and don't seem to have any probs with it.

I take my pill when I go to bed. I use my pill packet as my bookmark. It's a very good reminder because I rarely go to sleep without reading first. My boyfriend also reminds me, which is nice because it means he's involved in our contraceptive efforts!

I take mine at midday and I have a daily alarm set on my phone so it beeps at me to remind me - it works really well as wherever I am, I generally have my phone on me. I've been on Microgynon for the last 2 years and so far, no probs with it

I can't take pills with oestrogen so I am on the progestogen only ("mini") pill that you mentioned. It's OK. The only downside is that it doesn't regulate your periods so to start off with they could be a bit all over the place. I started off on quite a new, strong mini pill called Cerazette, but this gave me on average 2 periods a month. It actually stops ovulation unlike all the other mini pills. I am now on Micronor which is quite low dosage mini pill. I'm gonna stick with it, it keeps my periods regular and I dont get any severe side effects. I dont know why it would be best to go on the mini pill rather than the combined pill after coming off depo but I'm sure your doc would be able to tell you. What's wrong with the depo, btw?

Microginon made me majorly depressed too! Was then on cilest, but changed cos i was getting quite bad mood swings and had been on it for a few years. Am now on Loestrin and am feeling much better

I forgot to mention that if you do go on the mini pill, the best time to take it is 3/4 hours before the time you have sex most often to make it as effective as possible. I generally set an alarm on my phone.
I was on Microgynon and it turned me into a right bitch lol, I was really horrible to everyone and I ended up crying all the time. I'm now on Femedette (if thats how u spell it) and i'm now lovely and nice again:wink:

There is nothing wront with depo, it has been great for me and stopped my periods for over a year which is great cuz they were really painful. I am coming off depo as it can leave you infertile for upto 2 years and I am at that age now where I will be thinking about starting a family in a couple of years time. Because of the depo I have to think about it in advance.

I'm on Dianette too (have been for 3 years) and have never had any awful side effects - I gained a bit of weight the first few months, but quickley lost it again

I'm on Microgynon, as are most of the pill-taking women I know. No one I know has had any weird side-effects and are still very nice, calm people. I used to get bad PMT and Microgynon has sorted this out.

As for remembering to take it, I usually take it as soon as I get out of bed in the morning. My pill packet is always on the bedside table. But I usually forget at least a couple of times a month, and am not pregnant yet.

what did you think of depo? i'm just going onto it and am kind of paranoid about having constant periods or putting on loads of weight. i did think about the pill, but i am forgetful and i've had stomach problems in the past so go through phases of being sick a lot (making the pill ineffective)

I found it worked very well for me, no depression or moodswings, no weight gain and best of all no periods!! It works differently for different people. Hope it goes just as well for you. (ps have it in your buttock- less painful   )

I'm thinking of going on the pill to help improve my skin, anyone had any experience of this?

I always remember mine by keeping it in my makeup bag! Never forgotten in 3 years - but then again im a cosmetics junkee : (
A few months ago, I had a average-slim friend who seemingly got a bit fatter on the hips, her breasts grew slightly larger than normal, and she also had a chest infection at one point. She asked me "Have I put on weight?" but I just said "No", even though I can tell she had, and then she said "She hadn't been doing exercise for a while". Does that indicate she was on the pill? Bare in mind, before she was 15 and before she went to the gym to work-out, she was quite chubby. Also, she's not that close of a friend and she asked me that 'am i getting fat' question - you normally would like to keep it quiet, or only keep it to yer girly friends and b/f, if you're on the pill right?

I was on the pill for about 6 months and it made me REALLY sick.. and i put on weight. If i hadn't have been on the pill i could have sworn i was pregnant! i've tried many different brands (loestrin, mycrogynon 60(?) and 30 etc etc) and never got on with any of them.. I'm gonna give it another go tho but think i'll try something else instead. Apparently the IUS is good and lasts for 5 years... any comments appreciated.

It does help, as far as i've noticed. It probably depends on what you take though...Dianette made me put on weight and have bad mood swings (no laughing at the username kthnx) so I switched to Yasmin, which is awesome.
