What are the toilets and showers like in Founders?
Are they quite private? Or horrible school like ones, with no sealed floor or top. :s-smilie:
worried.....

When I looked round a few weeks back, it was pretty basic and nasty. Pretty much like school type, no real privacy to be had.

Its just a toilet.

What exactly do you mean by 'no real privacy'? A gap at the bottom of the toilet doors doesn't bother me too much (well, as long as it isn't too big) but it would with the showers. :frown:
There's a wooden partition separating the baths, unless you've got a rugby player on the other side then don't worry.

The showers are all in individual cubicles with doors, there are NO gaps in them.

And the toilets are indeed rather like school ones.

They're shared bathrooms, what were you expecting?
Here's a tip for anyone living in Founders 2nd floor East who wants to avoid the inevitable cold showers/queues at peak times:

This is easiest for people in rooms 200-236 (the south end of the floor). Basically, go down the last staircase onto the first floor where the offices and staff canteen are. Go left and take the second door on your right. You should find yourself in a shower room which very few people know about. Now, I heard a rumour that RHUL are using the first floor as a residential floor this year, and if that's the case then the advice I've given is useless. However, if the first floor is all offices like it was last year then using those showers has a lot of advantages:

- Water is always hot and flows well
- No queues
- Clean, with no pubes clogging the drains
- Not as prone to vandalism

Just remember to leave them in a clean state and don't tell anyone about them. One disadvantage is that during the week a lot of people use the corridor that the showers are on - so for god's sake make sure you cover up.

If anyone is moving into Founders East this year and wants some advice about the building, then don't hesitate to ask me. I had some good times in that building and I'm going to miss it a lot.

5th floor showers in founder's are nice-they're power showers!! I got used to wondering around in a towel and dressing gown. I know it looks odd when people do that on open days, but I found it normal after a while!

One of the bad things about the showers is that the lights go off after 10 minutes-not fun if you have long hair and still have to rinse conditioner out without slipping over in the cubicle.

The first floor is offices, so I don't think they're going to make that accommodation!

i dont get this whole founders thing? how many people are each bathroom shared with, and also where are the pantries??
A lot of people share the bathrooms. There's 2 pantries to a floor, basically at the two opposite ends of each corridors. They're in pretty poor state too but you're catered anyway so doesn't matter all that much
oooooooooh How many people per floor, and are they mixed??:tsr2:
Single sex floors and I dunno, maybe 90 to a floor or something?
ooh 90 to a floor?? ! are they not grouped in flats of ten??
Ha, Founders in flats. That would be funny.
so you basically live on a corridor of 90 people with no kitchen??!
Well there's 2 pantries at either end but essentially it's just one huge long corridor of 90 people, yeah.

Have you actually seen a picture of Founders? It's a catered hall anyway.

Yeah I have seen a picture of the outside, but haven't/couldn't find any of the inside or information on the layout from the rhul website either:rolleyes: ,so am confused about the whole founders layout, but it's becoming clearer to me . Too late now anyway,as I put it down first on my preference list for halls today.:s-smilie:
You might want to read Tomematthews post on Founder's, sums up some of the problems though those problems are intermittent.

If you want I can dig out some photos of the corridors
