Is anyone else in Barbara Scott Court (Vanbrugh)?

I had never even heard of it! Apparently it's really new, which is good, but it's quite far away from the main Vanbrugh bit and I'm worried it'll be harder to meet people :frown: Please reassure me?!

There'll be more Vanbrugh students in the new buildings than in the old bit (I think?), and it's not exactly quite far away. Like 3 minutes walk max, so I wouldn't worry too much!

If it's where I'm thinking of then it's not really far away at all - like laser said, 3 mins walk and there will be plenty of people around... Some of Vanbrugh is off campus anyway in Fairfax House. You'll get to know people living near you and at the Vanbrugh fresher events you can meet lots of people - and once you know one person and they let you into the main Vanbrugh bit, you can go anywhere you want!

Ah phew, thanks guys! Does anyone know anything about the new bit, like what it looks like, what the rooms are like?

Reply 4

I am!!! I'm in flat D4, what flat are you in?

Reply 5

It's quite likely it'll be identical to the new (two year old) Alcuin blocks (at least it looked like it from the external diagrams I saw)

We're not neighbours lol, each flat has 6 rooms in it :P (you have a separate room number somewhere). We will however be sharing a kitchen so I will probably see you on the first day

We're on the first floor (not ground floor, i hate the confusingness of that)

Oh and there's a facebook group here for any Barbara Scott Court residents: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6128075986

The newest Alcuin blocks (I was in one in my first year) are very nice... I had a huge desk with a light above it and a notice board, as well as another (bigger) noticeboard next to my bed. There was loads of storage space, with shelves, a cupboard at the end of my bed and space under the bed as well (you lift up the mattress), plus a wardrobe. The ensuite 'pod' is a toilet separated from the shower by a curtain, so it can get pretty wet, but I never had any problems...

We had to use a card key to get into the block, then onto our floor and of course our rooms

The kitchen was really spacious with enough seating for everyone (in the old Vanbrugh accomm before they changed it there was space for about 5 on a corridor for 12!), and in my floor (which had 12 people) there were 2 ovens, 2 microwaves, 2 kettles, 2 fridges and 2 freezers (both full length) as well as one double cupboard for everyone

Hope that helps  Unfortunately there was no way to see into the new accomm. when I was last at York so I don't know what it's like inside

I don't know for certain but Barbara Scott Court might be part of the new Bleachfields site, the new Vanbrugh accommodation blocks. If so then I will see you around because I'm a rep for the fresher's there!

I think I'm D/008.

Hey neighbour

I kinda hope previous poster is wrong. I'd rather not be right next to the kitchen :frown:

Haha hi flat buddy! What are you studying? I can't wait for uni, I'm so bored at home at the moment and looking forward to freshers! And I read somewhere else that room number 7 is next to the kitchen so don't worry it could be me hah
