Natwest - Roll Number?

Basically I'm trying to change my ank details for the SLC but it says I need a 'Building Society Roll Number'. Well I can't find this anywhere and when I went into the branch to ask the woman didn't even know what it was. Is this because Natwest isn't a building society and so doesn't have one? Because I know my old account at Halifax had one. Or if not, how can I find out what it is?

Im with HSBC and Natwest and neither of them have a roll number because they are banks not building societies! Halifax is a building society so it has one! Hope that helps!

Just leave it blank thats what i did!

natwest shouldnt ask for a roll number thats strange. they should only ask for account and sort code no

edit - oops i just read the thread title and responded without first reading the whole comment

Doesn't have one, since it's a bank. Sort code and Acc Number should be sufficient.

I've been working for Natwest this sumer and they would have only given you a bank account number and sort code - these will be on a statement, paying in book.

Your account number is 8 numbers and sort code 6 numbers - as someone said before roll numbers are for building societies so leave that blank but make sure you fill out the account number and sort code correct otherwise you wont get any money!!

as mentioned Roll No.s are for Bldg Socs but none of them use it anymore!! No-one apart from Halifax and Yorkshire Building Society! Thats all i can think of to be honest and i've spent the last 2 years working for a finance company and i dealt with banks all day long (unfortunately!)
Hope it helps.

...was a building society. As of 1997, Halifax stopped being a building society, and became a bank - sorry, just feeling picky
They still use roll numbers though - probably as a relic of having been a building society.
