Prime Minister Theresa May is to officially notify the European Union next Wednesday that the UK is leaving.

Downing Street said she would write a letter to the EU's 27 other members, adding that it expected negotiations to then begin as quickly as possible.

The move comes nine months after people voted 51.9% to 48.1% in a referendum.

Talks on the terms of the departure and future relations are not allowed under the Article 50 process until the UK formally tells the EU it is leaving.

If all goes according to the two year negotiations set out in the official timetable, Brexit should happen in March 2019.

It's finally set then, a definite date. What's everyone's thoughts on the matter?

Just get on with it and work something out that suits both sides instead of behaving like children.

Well was going to last Tuesday but didn't due to SNP stupidity. But yes finally months later it's about to. Still take two years to get out properly and deport the 3 million + EU foreigners.

Better prepare for a massive influx of tanned pensioners in that case. Can the NHS cope? Would now be a good time to snap up property in Spain?

Don't be so pathetic. Britains economy is the strongest in the world. We have never depended on the EU for our prosperity

    About time.

First thing to do is trigger article 50 and repeat, immediately, the offer we made months ago. Secure the right of brits in the EU for the rights of EU nationals in the UK. The sooner that's settled the better and the only reason they said no was because they "wouldn't talk about it before article 50".

Considering it was promised to happen the day after the vote I think we've waiting long enough. Not that it's a bad thing - the last PM was so clearly on the remain side he never even thought to get anything in place for losing.

That's not going to happen. If it did, services like the NHS would probably collapse, and what about the many British citizens living abroad? EU immigrants already here aren't going to all be deported.

Well it was necessary after Germany decided to commit cultural suicide and wanted us to join them in the suicide pact. Its kind of like if your at a party and the party organizer tries to set up a suicide pact and the rest of the people at the party are acting mad at anyone trying to leave or say they don't want to take part. You leave that party as fast as you can.

Merkel has destroyed her country and possibly the entire EU with it. Nothing can save Germany now nothing at all. Sweden too is lost and France is dying. The UK is very sick and will likely die to but at least with Brexit we stand a small chance of surviving.

Thank god for Trump in the US.

Trump is a genius and a hero and hopefully he can save us all but the odds are against him. Men like him though defy all odds.
