Leeds or Liverpool?!

Heya, I'm applying for dentistry in 2008 but can't decide on a 4th choice. I've been to Leeds and liked it while I was there, but looking back it didn't really compare to Bham, Bristol and Sheffield in my opinion, as I preferred a smaller campus. But I haven't been to Liverpool- so would it be silly to apply there instead, not knowing what it's like and therefore there's the possibility of me hating it? I know that it's more PBL based and I don't know whether I'd like that or not...so what do people think?

If anyones doing dentistry at either could you tell me a bit more if possible? (pros and cons :smile:

)

I got into both and chose leeds, its so much better and nicer. I know someone at Liverpool who says they have so much extra work where as we had hardly any. Leeds has the best night life in the country and has recently had all the clinical skills rooms refurbished, they are amazing now!

Ive recently visited both, and I must say that liverpool didnt even compare!
leeds ticks all the boxes!!! (for me anyway)

i love liverpool..... dentists do the same course as us in 1st year mainly. it's not that much work tbh.... i had a really lazy year and i passed and a dentist's pass mark is 40% instead of 80% for us.... so if you want to work your arse off, then you can but it's unecessary.....

Your best bet is to experience it yourself... Go visit it in the weekend... everyones got their own opinion and what they like from a city/ Uni campus.

IMO, Liverpool did not appeal to me that much... The dental school was too monotonous... every floor looked the exact same lol.... and also the city didn't appeal to me either....

My sisters at liverpool uni and she loves it there... especially the city.. the city didn't cut it out for me and wasn't what i expected for a uni campus.

Whereas Leeds was modern and great as a city... The dental schools being refurbished and everything inside looks great... I really wanted to go leeds... alot more than liverpool....

Trust me theirs no comparison AT all. I'm at leeds now and it may seem that i'm being a tad biast but i've been to both and the night life and facilities here are beyond doubt the best of the two. I guarantee you will absolutely love it here and if you havn't experianced PBL i suggest you look into it because i have a friend doing dentistry at liverpool who is going through hell....here at leeds they basically spoon feed us which is great because it means you can half doss about and you'll pass. Whats the point working 10 times harder for the same goal?! hope this helps

leeds sounds more appealing tbh... hence i applied there---- except i think the competiton may just be much higher as well since nearly every1 know is applying there!!!

i kinda of wish i had applied to liverpool instead for that reason. but then again all dental schools are probably very hard to get into!!!

Theirs really not that much difference tbh when it comes to how hard it is to get into each dental school. Last year liverpool was completely oversubscribed and i was rejected from there because apparantly they only accepted 40% of their applicants from interview. However i was pretty supprised when i got an offer from Leeds just because i thought it was the best in the country and would therefore be very hard to get into. So it really just depends on the year and pot luck tbh...good luck anyway with your applications
