ah no. the power of resits is so underestimated. my friend went from a mid B at AS to virtualy full marks on the resit. (politics) lucky cow

You're wrong. They are important, and for many reasons, more important than A2 results, bucko.

If I don't get at least 3As I can't apply to Cam, or Duhram or any of the places I want to go. I need these grades to be good... They are just as important.

Don't be so unfair. We have EVERY right to be as worried as you...

Of course you can still apply to Cambridge with less than 3As at AS level.

chill. nobody ever said you shouldn't worry- i was exactly the same last year as i am now. having said that, i know someone who got into oxford for history with a C in history at AS- his reference was amazing, as was his interview performance. oxbridge don't rely only on AS grades to make their decisions.
at least you do have the option to make things better if you do muck up though. and universities WILL consider you. they know the pressure we all face to do well, and if you're good enough for them, then an interview/great personal statement will convince a lot of them.

hey look results arent everything! as long as the teachers know your potential and predict you accordingly these results wont mean squat. you will still be able to get a place at oxbribge with good predictions and a sound personal statement.

thank you! i know they are important to a lot of people, but in retrospect, when you can resit and still get offers with grades you didn't really want, it's not a huge huge deal. A2 isn't either really. a lot of us (inc myself) just stress out too much about it, because we want our firm offers
Maths: A/B
Business & Economics: A/B
Computing: B/C
Chemistry: D

i had a really terrible 3 straight chem exams

I know a Sidney Sussex interviewer and admissions tutour who has told me interview offers and preliminary considerations are based on your predicted A2 grades, which will be based on my AS grades. So you can't just get an interview with Bs and Cs, this is bloody Oxbridge. Besides, I would interview terribly, as I refuse to read around my subject, why force myself to do something I don't want to?

fair enough, if that's what they've said then that's what a lot of them will do. but not all of them.

don't mean to sound a little harsh here, but if you know you're not going to read around your subject and interview terribly, then why apply? one of my oldest friends who's doing 5 proper alevels, got all A's at AS amazing refs and personal statement, got pooled from Pembroke. why didn't she get a straight offer? cos the college said her interview was what let her down.

I don't think that's harsh, quite reasonable...

I know I won't read around my subject much, but I will try my best to give a good interview and act insightful at the time... I'm one of those people that has to go for the biggest slice of pie, even if they know they won't finish it all and will get full... I want to try, even if chances are slim (as they always are at cam). I hope that makes sense.

Im not the brighest person in the world, but ive never met anyone who works as hard to achieve the best they can with limited resources...

well thats very admirable  good luck if you do decide to apply. you have the right attitude towards it so that's a great start
I'm predicted:

A2 Bio: A
A2 Chem: B
AS Psych: A
GCSE Music: God knows and I don't care

I need 240 tariff points but the trouble is that 200 of them have to come from my A-Levels - so it's gotta be an AA, BB or AC for Bio and Chemistry and thanks to my performance in the last two Chemistry exams I haven't a hope of getting my B, so I HAVE to get an A for Bio... it's a bit iffy and I want to do my course soooo much :frown: One day to go...

Apparently if they can't read your writing they pass it on to a more powerful examiner who actually has time to read it so i'm sure you'll be fine.

For my GCSEs, I am expecting bad grades just so that I won't be disappointed. So mainly Bs and Cs I expect.
