HELLL NO! don't take parac + alcohol, that combination would be like giving your liver a few good kicks!

Can you please do a little research before posting? It's fine to drink while taking paracetamol as long as you stay within the recommended dose.

I know wut I'm talkin about you bird, paracetamol=acetaminophen(Canada)=Tylenol, which is KNOWN to cause liver damage over prolonged periods of time... combining this substance with alcohol wouldn't be wise to say the least....

edit:**whoops i wouldve broke another rule  for cussing a bird out **

No you don't know what you're talking about, you dolphin. Both the dumbed down guide here:

http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleId=867

(Written by the National Health Service of the UK)

And the scientific study posted above here:

http://www.australianprescriber.com/magazine/27/1/14/5/

Completely contradict what you're saying. If you're gonna read either, read the second, as it deals with the myth that Paracetamol causes liver damage in therapeutic doses when combined with alcohol.

i frequently take paracetemol and alcohol. 2 Paracetemol before bed after a night old with 2 pints of water = no headache in the morning. I can safely say i havent had any ill effects, including not needing my stomach pumped (what the hell?) Its fine to do

I reckon 2 pints of water without the paracetamol = no headache in the morning.

maybe so but the point i was trying to make is taking paracetemol with alcohol has never given me any side effects and ive done it for years.

AS you read above, research suggests that ETOH has a protective effect and helps prevent damage from hepatotoxic poisons associated with the metabolism of paracetamol.

You did read, didn't you?

dolphin... I can't say I've heard that one before... hahahahahaha

anyways I was just trying to warn people not to take acetaminophen (paracetamol) with alcohol, but if you'd prefer hepatic toxicity be my guest... I hardly care.

You could try taking a pain killer containing Codiene, Ive found this a lot more effective than any other. And try to keep in mind that people take large amounts of Pain-killers and Alcohol in suicide attempts so Im guessing its not a brilliant idea.

No.
Don't even think of taking alc and para.
Dont take alc and redbull either - even if it tastes nice.

alc and para - will send you to hospital. No matter how little of each you consume. The doctor's will pump your stomach out in order to save your life.
Friend of mine did, and well. The above sentence is what happened to her.
Also, the alc slows your heart rate, and redbull speeds your heartrate up (or other way round, cant fully remember) and with the two opposites occuring, you higher your chances of suffering a heart attack and possibly killing yourself or inflicting permanent heart damage on yourself.
Mmm the fun! ^__^

what a load of crap.
First off, if any of what you are saying is true, i'm sure as hell that it would say on the back of the paracetamol packet 'DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL'
does it?
no.

Aspirin is the one that you shouldnt have with alcohol.

that was a rude way to tell a person that you don't agree with what they're saying? I didn't agree with alcohol+redbull comment but did you see me being a little flamer? NYET!

I didn't know about the aspirin+alcohol being bad... explain it if you could.. but I've been told on many occasions to avoid tylenol (acetaminophen/paracetamol, same stuff) with alcohol so thats what Im reitterating..

It's not that we don't agree - stating as fact something that's not supported by the medical evidence (or is in direct contradiction of it) isn't really something you should be doing in H&R on a scientific subject.

The NHS article seems to be missing the obvious a little bit?

The combination of alcohol with codeine or dihydrocodeine may cause increased drowsiness. This may result in problems with driving and operating machinery.

Surely you shouldn't be driving after drinking alcohol anyway?

Reply 33

Well, you can, just.

And people do.

But the Poles aren't going to care about that.

Both your articles deal with heavy intake of paracetomol and alcohol over a chronic timeframe. Not quite the same as taking some paracetomol for toothache.

i actually want to apologise for the way i wrote that paragraph - yesterday wasn't an awesome day for me, so i was in a preeettty bad mood.
apologies for being so rude!!

the alcohol aspirin thing.. again, ok, its probably not going to kill you, but it increases stomach bleeding [which is never good, really]. Also, drinking a lot of alcohol at once [like loads of students do] with the recommended dose, can cause liver and kidney failure. Obviously not with everyone. But if you have over 3 drinks [i presume that means 3 units??] you shouldn't take aspirin.

keep doing it then.. I honestly don't care if you don't want to follow my advice, I'm just telling you what will happen if you continue your regiment of paracetamol/tylenol/acetaminophen+alcohol... we'll see in a few years when you're suffering from hepatoxicity...

n no problem to saf n the rude person
