GOV.UK Apprenticeship Site- What does possible start date mean?

I'm looking at doing an apprenticeship this year after my A Level and BTEC results come through in August so naturally I have been looking at apprenticeships on the government apprenticeship site, however, I am not sure what it mean by possible starting date. For example, some say April 10th 2017 and others April 4th, 2017, but I want to start an apprenticeship in September this year, 2017 so do I wait until nearer the time or should I apply for some now even though the employer will need to wait until my results in August, any thoughts on the matter?

Depends on the apprenticeship tbh.

Most big companies run their selection process from September, to run alongside the university application process.

Start dates will be related to the college/training courses that you'll be on.

So realistically, you're looking at a year out if you want something with a big company. If you know what you're looking to do, you may be able to find a smaller company with a shorter application process.
