SOAS- Any opinions welcome!! especially for IR

I'm in year 12 and want to study international relations. I've set my heart on a campus university and always ruled out London (especially as my mum went to UCL and hated it!) But the course at SOAS is incredible, and I love the small, political feel i'm getting. So, is SOAS a bit of a lonely experience, like most at UoL? Whats IR like, any comments welcome! Also, being in London find accommodation where I can socialize (i'm shy until I know people, then very sociable!) Dinwiddy house looks great but if u live outside London how hard is it to get a place? Thanks!!!
Hey, I'm also studying international relations!I think the course at SOAS is amazing! the approach that the university takes is very unlike other universities and you cover a variety of scholars and topics that you wouldn't otherwise. Like we cover a lot of Edward Said, Franz Fanon - and other postcolonial scholars. Its also great if you want to specialise in Africa, Asia or the Middle East. The course also really opens your eyes to a variety of issues, that you probably would not have come across during sixth form. This is especially as the university is really international so you'll get a loads of different insights and viewpoints on issues. Ultimately, this makes it a really cool place to learn. However, I personally do wish I went to a campus uni. The only reason I am staying at soas is because of the course. Whilst the entire university has a cool vibe, it does get quite lonely, and like all london universities, its hard to make anything more than surface level friendships. I've spoken to quite a few people and they feel the same way. Thats not to say you won't make good friends, but its hard to really form a group and become really good friends with people. you definately will not get the same campus uni experiance, so if that is really what you are after, I would really consider if going to SOAS is the right choice. in terms of Dinwiddy, if you live outside of London im pretty sure you can get a place. I know people who lived in ealing and got a place, and thats technically in London. so yeah, dont worry too much about that.

Thanks, that was really helpful. This is basically what I expected in that the course sounds great but I would miss the friendliness of a campus, so SOAS probably isn't the right choice. Still, I'm going for a summer school in a month and really looking forward to it!
