I'd like to make this my tribute to one of the Internet's greatest sites, referenced in national newspapers and every single Evelyn column ever, now sunk beneath waves of applications-based bilge and well-meaning helpfulness. We will never see the likes of it again, if only because TSR rules/moderation would stop it all before it became slightly interesting. Truly a sad loss. Even if it was a little dead.

that's not really what it sank beneath. it sank beneath spam, moderators' negligence, legal threats, freshers' indifference, and spam.
but the glory days are forever glorious. such a shame it isn't archived (unless it's on wayback). haha, I had 3 separate identities on that site, all with 200+ posts.
RIP Ox Goss. When I first started at Oxford my college forum was rife and it was a great procrastration tool and a great way to keep up with college gossip (even if I did feature on it once, but merely in a speculative way). Like those above me, I did have a username on there, but no-one ever worked out who I was....even the legendery "TheManAboutTown". May it rest in peace.
Sounds like an awful place. Perhaps best that it's gone now
Matthew and I (founder and 1st moderator) are very, very relieved to see the back of it. Caused way too much fallout and loss of trust, particularly in Union circles.
how long can this thread last on tsr do you reckon? Obviously it can never be the same in that most of the people on this site are applicants/ offer holders, and of the rest, almost everyone knows who almost everyone else is, but it's at least a start.
I dunno I kinda feel like TSR is going the same way... Maybe it's just my perception in that when I first came up I looked at TSR now and then and wasn't really part of the community and since my parents moved to this man-forsaken-middle-of-nowhere place I spend a lot more time on here but it really feels like more and more people are leaving and none of the freshers ever stay after they actually get to Oxford...
me, peter, charlotte, sam and dom (to some extent) all stayed. A few others pop up now and again, too. I know what you mean, though- there does seem to be a heck of a lot more one-off posts from people than there used to be.

You write in purple and people dont mercilessly take the piss out of you for it. Believe me, this place has a LONG LONG LONG way to go before it is half as fun as Oxgoss once was.
Oxgoss is where people would go to vent some ascorbic wit when the boredom of lectures and the absolute inanity of the hacks got them down, not (like TSR) an alternative to having an actual social life.
From the sounds of it it is a shame this sight has been... closed down? Ive never seen it before though, but i agree the TSR Oxford forum is pretty much just questions of "are my chances of getting into Oxford increased if i do x or y or apply to z college"
