Was Milgram's research an observation or an experiment?
I'm not talking about his variations but in the original study wouldn't it be an observation method as there was no IV? Also, could Zimbardo's experiment be argued as a lab experiment? (AS level)

Milgrams research was an experiment and yes Zimbardos was a lab because the setting was artificial and the variables could have been controlled. It was also open to demand characteristics. Hope this helps ☺️
