How strict is your school/attendance on attendance?

****Title should read "How strict is your school/college on attendance****

I've been at college for 3 weeks now and i've missed quite a few lessons (mostly mornings) because I haven't been staying at home and the transport is rubbish. Because it's only been 3 weeks, i'm guessing my attendance could be 60%-70%. I'm now staying at home again so my attendance should improve. What would your school/college do if you missed alot of lessons early on in the year?

they probz drag u in for a discussion if u explained why .just ask you to try and improve it.

Personally i hate my form tutor and never turn up to from, head of sixth form hasn't said anything about it yet.
The school I go to is very strict in comparison to my old school.. (but then again it is boarding). You have to sign in and out if you go down the road to the shop. Doors close at 8.30pm. The boarding mistress said I was missing too many suppers... Ive only missed 4 or 5 in 5 weeks! lol

Mine are strict on attendance, every sixth form is (especially if you qualify for EMA).
Mine is pretty strict. If you qualify for EMA then you have to fill in a form of where you were even if you've only missed one lesson, or morning registration. You need 100% attendance (or a good enough reason for an absence) to get EMA.

For everybody else that doesn't turn up, a letter is sent out (or a phone-call made) to find out why 'x' child hasn't turned up for school.
Hmmmm, ours doesn't really seem that strict! Ok, if ye miss loads then they do get concerned, but if it's only say like ye first one or something then they don't really give a damn! I did have problems when i first started in Year 12 'cause didn't like any of my teachers so didn't bother turning up for half their lessons at the beginning of the year - that was until one of the days i'd missed my BTEC Retail lesson with head of Business department and i was wandering down the corridor and she seen me and asked why i weren't in the lesson, i was just like "Ahhhh, didn't know we had a lesson miss" and then she said that she hadn't seen me in lessons for quite a while so i had to go to her GCSE Business coursework thing after school so she could sort me out with my coursework/see where i was up to! And after that occasion i turned up to every single lesson that i had, lol was dead enthusiastic even turned up dead early to them!

Our school is relatively strict I would say; we have morning and afternoon registrations every day. And they do chase you up if you miss one.
We have to be at registration, and if we're late into school we have to sign in with the time and reason. And if we miss registration, if it's not known if you're in then it's recorded as late, and you have to go to the reception, I think. But mostly when people aren't at registration it's cos they're not in or have a music lesson or something.

Which ones in particular?
My college questions people on attendance, and tutors are given a list of which lessons we have missed the previous week, but I don't know if I would say they are particularly strict. Our head of college takes the line 'If you want your EMA go to your lessons' - seems to work!
i wish i got EMA, i really need the money
but come on £88 million lottery win tomorow!

:p: Maybe I'm just bitter cause I'm constantly having to phone the EMA office to explain why my teacher marked me off again, when I was actually in.
I'm not usually a scive so I can't really comment...:p:

I'd say they're EMA rules are fair. If your not going to be punctual don't fill in the contract, the phone calls home and letters will be annoying if your lazy. Which I'm not

There’s registration every morning and afternoon, although apart from that teachers don’t keep track of who’s there. So it’s very possible to miss lessons while being there for morning and afternoon registration, and nothing would happen since no one would know.

Why? If you receive EMA, you’re being paid to attend lessons, so you should be present at each and every lesson and have your green card signed by your teacher.

They’re not forcing the EMA onto you. You can always attend on your own terms, but then you’ll have to forfeit the EMA, which is only fair.

Green card? What green card are you talking about?

The EMA office where I live is bad for mix ups, leading to me not being paid when I should be.

I don’t know, I don’t get EMA, but everyone I know who does has a green card for teachers to sign to show they were present at the lesson.

We get a copy of our timetable for EMA's and ask the teachers to sign it at the end of every lesson. (I don't receive EMA.) It differs from college to college.

My college is not strict on attendance. They say you need about 70-75% attendance to carry on to the next year. As I don't miss many lessons, it didn't apply to me as I got more than 95% attendance last year (not saying the actual figure).
