    Hi,

I am in the process of applying for a Primary (with SEN) School Direct program which will start in September 2017 - this is outside London. I currently work as a TA3 and my school are supporting my studies by allowing me to have 2 of my placements there, with a third mainstream primary placement selected by the lead school to satisfy criteria for QTS. I am applying to Student Finance England to get a tuition fee loan and maintenance loan. However, based on my financial situation, including my partners income, the maintenance loan will not be enough to support me through the year.

I will have to leave my current TA role as the school won't allow me to simple reduce my hours as I won't be consistently available due to the training. As such I will be taking a 50% pay cut which is unaffordable. To further complicate matters, I have a DMP so will find it difficult to secure private funding to top up my maintenance loan from SFE.

Are there any other funding options available to me? I have already investigated the bursary option but none is available for Primary courses with a 2:2 degree. It feels incredibly frustrating that my career opportunity may not even get off the ground due to lack of funding to support trainees.

    Thanks

    Andy

It's worth searching through https://grants-search.turn2us.org.uk...127.1491304968 to see if there are any charitable grants available to you.

Likewise often course providers will know of other sources of support/hardship grants that might help plug the gap.
