Sketch what the after-exercise spirometer trace would look like if the person was asked to take a single deep breath to allow the measurement of vital capacity.

If you were asked to investigate other changes to the body during exercise, what other factors could you measure easily?

Spirometers are used to calculate a subject’s basal metabolic rate (BMR) from the volume of oxygen consumed in a given time. Explain why it would be difficult to measure your own BMR in this way during a biology lesson.

Vital capacity is the highest volume of air that you can expel from your lungs, so think about the difference in air that you're using before and during exercise. Then think about what changes during exercise for instance heart rate does and that is measureable. Think about how long a lesson lasts when looking at the BMR question.
