any ideas on going from cyclohexanone to 1-hydroxymethyl-cyclohexan-1-ol? I thought about using alpha halogenation of ethanal, then with this reacting with a linear diol, reacting this with Magnesium to make a grignard. This could then react with cyclohexanone and hydrolysis/reduction could lead to product but this route is very complicated! Any simpler ideas?
