I've chosen it because it's something I excel at. It's something I am passionate about- you should see me when my balance sheet doesn't add up (although that's VERY rare), I tend to get very stressed indeed! It's something I have wanted to do since my accountant grandad let me help him with his accounts.

I genuinely like what I have learnt so far.

And I've wanted to be an accountant for as long as I can remember, problem solving, statistical analysis, working in an office environment, advice on business strategy, all things I love now, based on my limited experiance.

Well i want to go into consultancy specialising in finance, and training as an accountant will hopefully go hand-in-hand. I just feel advising businesses will be really interesting.. i may be horribly wrong once i actually do it

I decided to go for a graduate job in accountancy because I could train for the ACA which would open up other career opportunities. Plus, I was keen to work with a range of different people and for multiple clients.

At the moment I am keen in getting into the Financial Sector - either Investment Management or a Hedge Fund. My job at the moment allows me to visit such firms and get a rare insight into what it is like to work in these businesses, which will hopefully help me to decide what I would like to do after I qualify.

However, i'm not sure if I will always want to work in that industry and having an ACA means that you can apply to a range of industries and a variety of financial or managerial roles.
My reasons are pretty much the same as the poster above. Although I am working in tax, I'm doing the ACA rather than CTA as it will hopefully give me a wider range of options within financial careers. (And also if I wish, my firm will pay for me to do CTA afterwards and you get about 80% exemptions after doing ACA).

Its because my familys at London - London sucks for fun jobs, your stuck with banks/Accounting/Law for good paying careers. I would have preferred to actually do engineering - and have a career in Engineering (mech/Aero), as I think that would actually be interesting. Too bad engineering jobs in London are pretty non-existant ..

Indeed, but when I say familiy, it means pretty much all relatives too , I can't move them all out! I doubt my parents would be pleased about my plans to move them out of London. They also have this idea that outside London pay is poor (It is somewhat true) - but when you can get as a graduate around 24k in an area with SUCH low living costs than London, it is really good (considering big4 in London pay 26k start :P) its actually so cool, and you don't have to slave over as many hours in London, or do so much monkeywork !!!

Blindly, if you want to become an accountant you would do an Accounting and Finance degree.

to be honest most people wanting to do accounting would be better off with a economics degree

Why's that then matey? I'm actually considering changing to economics + a language degree. You reckon this will be more beneficial in the long-term rather than studying accounting and finance?

It's a safety net if IB doesn't work out.

Economics is a traditional subject it should be much more respected than AccFin. Plus the language is a real plus! Also if you don't being in the accounting field, Economics would help you to break into other areas.
