London Collage of Fashion (LCF) or Kingston University for BA Fahion Design

Hi there! I´ve recieved an offer from LCF for Fashion Design and Development and I also applied to Kingston University for BA Fashion where I recieved an interview invitation. I already read the content of both courses but I'm still undecided. So I´m wondering if anyone can share their experience or opinions about which university could be better to study. Thanks for your help! :wink:

Congrats on your offer & interview! I'm going to be studying Journalism at Kingston this September. I've been talking to a wide variety of people at the university whom have all praised the university really highly!

Have you been to an open day at either of those universities - if so, what were your thoughts in regards to the feel of the university?
Is there anything that is unique to one of the universities, that you'd be interested in?
What about the differences in modules (if any)?
What about the accommodation price? - is that a big factor for you?
What about work placement opportunities?
Obviously Kingston isn't in central London - do you feel that'd be a good thing or a bad thing?
Have you watched videos about the two universities? - General university videos, videos about your course, videos about other courses in your department, any videos from students talking about their experience etc
What about the societies at each university? - Are they active? Are any of them interesting to you?

Have you looked at The Complete University Guide to each university?;

Emma, I really appreciate that you took the time to give me these tips. I´m an international student so it is impossible for me to attend open days. I know that Kingston has been in good positions in the ranking of fashion design. But I'm worried about the location, I don´t know how far away it is from central London and if that's really important for the studies. I would also like to know more about the experience of the students there and the opportunities they have. It would be great if you could share your experience with me and give me some tips for my skype interview! :smile: thanks for your time!

It's about 25 minutes on the tube into central London. It won't affect your job prospects in terms of placement, and the local area is relatively good. There's a few clubs, and of course an assortment of pubs and bars. Plenty of shops as well. Not too sure on how much it costs to travel back and forth between Kingston and Central London but I would assume placements would cover your travel costs. The location won't affect your studies in anyway - Central London isn't too far, but there's plenty going on in Kingston anyway.

If you go onto the Kingston University Societies page - http://www.kingstonstudents.net/societies/a-z-of-societies - and send a few societies messages on Facebook/Email etc they'll be able to answer your question better. Also in regards to International Students be sure to look over all the pages in the International Students section - http://www.kingston.ac.uk/international/pre-arrival-information/welcome-events/. Also look on Facebook for any freshers groups, or groups created about the course. It's a great way of meeting prospective students, and there might be a few current students on hand to answer any questions.

In terms of tips for the Skype Interview;

Make sure your background isn't too messy (e.g. don't have a mess of things behind you. Ideally just have it focused on you with a plain backdrop)

Test your camera and microphone beforehand - record yourself speaking to see if the microphone and camera is good quality. You want to make sure that the interviewer will be able to properly hear you.

Think about what questions they might ask you, and prepare some answers. Even if they don't ask those questions exactly, they might be useful. They'll probably ask you about 'Why Kingston?' & 'Why this course?' etc

Don't panic too much, they just want to make sure that the course is really for you.

Try and have some questions to ask them at the end. It's an opportunity to ask some things about the course and university.

Don't worry if you say 'eh' or 'uhm' or 'ah' or that a lot, it's completely fine.

Hello,
Good to know that you're going for Journalism at Kingston this September.
I'm offered a place in Creative Writing and Publishing. I'm waiting to hear from Kent, Sussex and Bath Spa.
Do you think choosing Kingston over others is a fair choice?
HiDid you go to LCF in the end? If so, how is it? Be most grateful for any feedback.

Hi RocioQuis!

At London Met we have a brilliant Fashion course that may be of interest to you! It is taught in The Sir John Cass School of Art, Architecture and Design which is Internationally recognised for high quality teaching, excellent facilities and unique opportunities. Students have also described the course as focusing on practical skills and hands on experience.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have about the University so just give me a shout if you'd like me to.

Have a lovely day :smile:

Hannah
