TSR VIP Club: getting answers to unanswered threads

Scroll to see replies

Interested. I'd already started trying to do this in recent months but sort of fell off the wagon when I increased my studying.

How on earth did Kevin manage 118 replies?! I haven't even seen that many threads! :eek4:

There has been a surge in Maths threads recently, a lot of which are posted in the wrong areas of study help, so it's not been too difficult  (for what it's worth, there are a fantastic team of maths-specific specialists moving these threads around but it's impossible for all of them to be picked up... so that's where I answer a lot of mine )

I'll definitely give this a go

If done over an entire month, it is definitely possible. I answered 6 threads in the 15 hours that have passed since I registered my interest, for example. At a pace of 6 a day, I would answer 186(!!!) threads in a 31 days long month. Kevin's pace is about 4 threads a day, which is completely manageable

Please don't guess answers to threads. Particularly threads about student finance. Giving incorrect advice is more harmful than posting no advice.

Acknowledged. I will do more research from now on.

Is bumping threads to see if more suitable people can answer alright, though?

Bumping isn't something that is recommended for the OP unless a thread has been unanswered for days. And by posting you remove that thread from the unanswered list where a lot of people are looking who might be able to answer.

I'd only bump if a thread was in an obscure sub forum and I was tagging in someone specifically who isn't likely to find that thread otherwise.

Noted. Any recommendations for who to tag in any particular situations?
I will say, it's not about getting the most replies. It's about providing the most helpful replies. Quality over quantity, always. If you see a thread you can't answer properly, either leave it or think about directing someone who can help to it. Don't just tag the same people over and over though thinking it counts as replies because firstly, it will be picked up in quality checks and discounted, and secondly, the person you tagged may not have time to go through loads of threads they've been tagged in but as a result feel obliged to reply to so as not to be rude

It would be anyone you know is knowledgeable in that area. Although, I personally leave it mostly, on the off chance I may end up tagging the wrong person. It's also likely that if they do know a lot about that subject, they'd probably come across it anyway. (assuming it's in the right forum)

However, I've been tagged a few times when it's been a forum I help mod and the threads in the wrong forum and needs to be moved.

The times I've done it were specific questions where I had seen other posters talking about those experiences in the past. I just remembered seeing those posts and was able to find the users to tag. In one case it took spending half an hour working through tsr connect for users who had applied for a specific course in previous years.

There's no easy way to get large numbers of answered threads unless you've got a bunch of knowledge about common questions or you're willing to take the time to research for answers.
[1qQUOTE]:king1: Do you have what it takes to be part of the VIP team? :king1:

The VIP team is a group of the most helpful users on TSR - people who answer unanswered threads!

Every day, hundreds of threads are created all over The Student Room, creating thousands of comments in discussion. Sometimes though, a question gets missed, and a student doesn't get a reply. The VIP team is here to make sure that doesn't happen.

Sounds like something you'd like to get into? We invite new members to join every month. Simply get stuck into answering some of the threads below to get yourself noticed.

To sweeten the deal, there's also a prize draw every week, with a chance to win a £25 amazon voucher. We also do a monthly draw for the chance to win a £50 voucher.

What do I have to do?

You don't have to spend ages researching every question. Post in areas you have knowledge and experience or sign post resources on or off TSR. As others have said don't tag or post for the sake of it though. Also as has been said quality over quantity and answers don't have to be super long to be helpful

If it's an area where you're not sure what to say or post (eg Accounting & Finance study help for me :s-smilie: als anything Student finance related and studying in North America ) then you can always tag people you genuinely believe can help and then delete your post. No benefit for you of course but I think that's fair and also helps the OP, which is ultimately what this thing is about.

But I don't think tagging in general is a good idea as it puts an onus on one person to reply, who may not be able to help or know the answer anyway and it just seems like it's trying to force a high number of replies?

Hey everyone,

Spreadsheet is a bit broken today, so no draw - hopefully should be back up tomorrow or Friday.

Thanks to everyone in the team for giving out pointers to those who are hopefully joining. It's really helpful and sounds like we're gunna get loads of great answers this week :h:

To all the newbies - sorry I can't update you on the leaderboard! Hopefully I can tomorrow.

FC :flip:
Looks like there won't be a draw til next week I'm afraid - we've been chucked out the office because it is flooded, so I have no access to my lovely spreadsheets :moon:

For more info about that old drama, you can check out our AMA flood thread

Anyway so I'm afraid I don't have a date for when the next draw will be - I'll keep you all updated though!

Thought I won when I got tagged

All the best, hope everything is sorted out
@Fox Corner oh no!

The tag confused me too as that's what you do when someone has won and I haven't been on TSR properly in weeks. Hope it all dries out soon
