Hi

Just wondering if people could possible offer advise on how to answer these questions. Been given loads of stuff like clips of articles and certain pages in my text book to read through (which I have done) but not really clear on how to answer the question. (probably just me being thick, but hey ho)

The questions are:
Explain how urban industrial heritage can be used to regenerate an area.

For this question I was given a few examples of Glasgow, Albert Docks and Plymouth. So would I just phrase the answer something like this:
Intro -Description of urban industrial and description of regeneration (but not sure what else to add in the intro)
Paragraph 1 - 2012 London Olympic & ways it regenerated area
Paragraph 2 - Albert Docks & ways it regenerated area
Paragraph 3 - Castlefield urban heritage park in Manchester & ways it regenerated area
Paragraph 4 - Belfast - The Titanic Quarter & ways it regenerated area
Paragraph 5 - Glasgow & regeneration plan in the area
[Would it need a conclusion though?)
^Would that be a good enough essay plan or would I need to go about answering it differently or even add more detail and that.

Describe the different approaches in rural regeneration schemes.
Spoiler:

For this question I was given a few examples of Cornwall, Kielder and Pennine Hills. So would I just phrase the answer something like this:
Intro - Description of rural regeneration (but again not sure what else to add to this intro)
Paragraph 1 - Newquay, Cornwall and the scheme there
Paragraph 2 - Kielder Water and Forest Park & scheme there
Paragraph 3 - Pennine Hills & scheme there
[I guess this won't need a conclusion]
^Not sure what other rural regeneration schemes to include in this essay. Would it need more scheme to write about or is it fine being only 4 paragraphs?

Hopefully someone can offer some advice on answering these questions.Thank you in advance if anyone does.

thanks for the tag but the geo modules Im choosing are biodiveristy and energy mix for my specialists, we did do general work on the others so let me see..

for the 1st one, yes you need a conclusion. for anything worth more than 10marks, intro and conclusion is vital.

Just a vague summing up sentence like 'in conclusion urban industrial heritage can be used to regenerate an area in many ways including providing x/y/z/ attractions and attracting more people from x/y/z/ target groups' usually more than that helps too, draw your ideas in like a spider diagram and use your key words

for intros, I like to define key words (at least in my 70 mark edexcel board exams) maybe define regenerate/urban industrial heritage?

for the 2nd, you essays need to have similar detail for similar marks , so again look back at your exam board and what they expect. 4 paras are fine if they amount to smiliar detail/words if theyre the same mark style questions/

conclusion is still possible with 'describe' key word, are there any general trends in all the case studies or specific anomalies?

finally your structure is very case study based which is good but Id do a factor by factor one instead if possible

eg for your 1st one classify your case studys to sport regeneration for olympics, park regeneration or coast regeneration

Just suggestions and again this isnt really my topic or even exam board, just try your best and get my general advice

Hi Thank you for the tag.

Unfortunately, I don't think I could offer much beyond what Forest has said.

Personally, for both essays, I would always include an introduction and a conclusion because it gives the reader/examiner some sort of closure and shows how you can tie in all of those case studies you mentioned and find a general trend that could describe all of them.

For both essays, perhaps also provide examples that aren't in the UK if there are ones that you have learned? or provide examples that are counter to show contrast to for example cities with great urban heritage and one that doesn't and how not having great urban heritage was a detriment to the city's urban regeneration.

I'll also tag in Leviathan1741 and Plagioclase to see if they have any more insight on this matter.

Umm and for future reference, perhaps post in the study help forum maybe it will get more responses there? (not my section so can't move anything... sorry)

Hope this helps and good luck

If this is who I think it is, hope you are ok :hugs: and will catch up soon!

If not then :hugs: anyways and good day

Hi wolfmoon88, thank you for the tag

Unfortunately human geography isn't really my area, I'm more of a geology person

You and ForestShadow have given great answers though, I'm sure OP will find them helpful :yep:
