My textbook says that during transcription the RNA polymerase attaches to DNA and unwinds DNA. I always thought that helicase unwinds DNA or am I wrong?

Is this edexcel? I stumbled across this too and after some research I think it is helicase that unwinds the DNA, with the RNA polymerase sealing the sugar-phosphate back bone.

No you're right ! DNA helicase unwinds the helix and RNA polymerase reinforces the RNA strand

The dna helicase unwinds and breaks the hydrogen bonds between the complementary base pairs. Then the free RNA nucleotides attach themselves to their complementary base pairing on the DNA template strand (Thymine replaced with Uracil onnthe rna nucleotide) . The rna polymerase creates bonds between the rna nucleotides so that they become a strand.
