Should media leave stars alone?

I agree with the 'they shouldn't put themselves in the limelight if they don't want attention' line of thought to a degree but sometimes it goes too far.

Britney Spears is a good example...She's clearly an incredibly troubled woman at the moment, and some of the criticism that's coming her way is really unneccessarily vicious and nasty.

I agree that press attention can be intrusive, but the thing is these people signed up for it when they pursued fame and fortune! It's all well and good when the press attention they're getting is working in their favour, but they don't like it when it turns on them. Well I think it's just tough cookies!

I personally couldn't care less about celebrity troubles. I have a life and my own things to deal with. I do feel sorry for celebs though, constantly having to live up to society expectations. People always say things like "they're meant to be role models for our young people" without considering that celebrities are human and make mistakes too. As long as people continue to buy the magazines and newspapers that constantly put celebs in the spotlight, media invasion of celebrity privacy will continue to happen. Unfortunately for celebs, they've gotten exactly what they want: to be famous.

The medai should leave siome styars alone, but soemnstars do wromng. they should stop followuing stars though. As you may know I think celeb obsession and idolsiation is v stupid, as all celebs are doping is actimng, singimng or playinmg sport et all, on other word less tahbn the average person and some celebs are very rich, imo they should ban celeb mags, its so boring, IMO the only ppl who idol celebs are airheads, they are usually airheads in general IMHIO. As I have said before it's that I dont care about getting a celeb autograph at a movie premiere, its that I DON'T won't to because I feel that many celebs present, who are idoled by the screaming (in admiration) fans are way overpaid for simply acting or whatever, I would rather visit normal people or real heroes. Sorry if this went off topic.

i dont agree with this 'if you don't want the attention don't become famous' thing. this only applies to the people who set out to be famous are these are the z list big brother people and probably manufactured pop acts. i doubt amy winehouse or pete doherty set out to be famous, just appreciated for their music, and now having the media thrust upon them.

i dont see any reason why the public desire for petty gossip outweighs their right to privacy. we dont need to know 90% of the stuff that gets printed about celebrities. the only reason where i think coverage in the media with regards to celebrities is justified at all is in matters affecting their career, and even then it should be kept respectful. like "amy winehouse misses another gig, personal issues cited" and leave it at that, the public actually need to know that in case they consider spending money on going to see her. but the intimate details of her addiction, what rehab clinic shes checks into, how bad she looks at the moment, what her father thinks about it all, no ****ing way. its just pathetic.

i think the public are largely to blame too for wanting to know all this in the first place and fuelling the whole thing. imagine a world where people are popular and acknowledge only for the quality of their work, not for how much media coverage they get with their private lives. maybe, the horror, people might turn their attention to important things going on in the world instead..

If they didn't like the attention itself, then why shop and dine where the paparazzi is sure to be found? I think they crave it themselves and act as if they are annoyed. They are annoyed if it's not working to their advantage and honestly, if they can't take it, then quit.

I think everyone here agrees with each other.

No it's part of being a celebrity.

It's only going too far if it's probing into people's lives who doesn't want to be made public at all.

there is all different aspects if the media and stars - it can be seen in different ways as in one person might think that if you become a celebrity it is something you should be prepared to deal with whilst other people would say that it is only a person doing something they love ,what gives the media to leave millions of people know when they divorce, get too drunk on a night out or is having problems getting pregnant.

i personally disagree with media gettin in so deep to celebrities lifes what i dont get is why poeple are so intrested in it!

Stars need media s much as media needs them.

Only the paparazzi take it too far, not all media. Most magazines do depend on famous people to sell their magazines, but they shouldn't have any right to go that one step further into a celebrity's personal lives.

I doubt that's gonna happen though as long as celebs keep making mistakes. :s-smilie:

The one's you see in the papers and magazines all the time are the one's who seem to court the media attention; going to (and more often than not stumbling out of) clubs, and restaurants where they know the paparazzi will be waiting for them. There are plenty of actors and musicians who are able to keep their private lives seperate and still have succesful film/music careers. I don't really sympathise with the Z list Big Brother types who make it their life's ambition to be 'famous' then complain when people take photos of them. I mean duh.

I think it's disgusting how the paparazzi are all over these famous people, but they are not all to blame. It's the mass who are bizzarly interested in the people and are willing to buy magazines to dish up on the latest news about break-ups, scandals, and all of the crap in the A-list world. It's because we are so sad with our pathetic lives that we are more interested in the elite's. Things aren't going to change any time soon if we don't stop becoming so engrossed with the lives of people we see on the silver screen.

hmm, I'm kind of split with this one. On one hand, I think that these people should be allowed to live their lives without all of this attention by the paparazi etc. They must get tired of constantly being followed and not having much privacy for themselves.

However, I do think that it is in the celebrity's own interests to actually have the media all over them, because it is how they remain famous anyways.

sorry if what i said sounded like if a 5 year old wrote it but it's early in the morning :frown:

I do agree with you, however, I feel that people should be famous for their talent as opposed to what happened to them last night over at that night club. But, yet again, things aren't going to change.

Some celebrities go out and seek the spotlight, with this lot when they don't like it they have nothing to complain about.
Others, I believe that they should be left alone, if you're minding your own business shopping or whatever, then you should be left alone.

Reply 36

it's all part and parcel of being a celebrity. Everyone knows that and yet they still pursue and want fame. Besides, they get so much money for doing hardly anything. Why shouldn't the masses get as much entertainment ou tof them as possible?
