The Student Room Group

I hate my social life in college!

Its bloody ridiculous! I just can't seem to get into a good social group at the minute! Everyone is staying with their mates from school and this continues into the secons year as i've heard from someone. All of my mates have went to another college and i'm really alone all the damn time which makes me look like a loner. However, i am enjoying my courses so thats good. how do i solve this problem because things are so awkward. i feel ****e tbh.

Invent a dance. Everybody will want to know how to do it and who will be there to teach them? Yes, that's right, you. You'll be the talk of the town and the people will call you Mr Pop (Pop being short for Popular that is).

What do people generally do for lunch? If I'm working as part of a group (eg doing a presentation) I make a point of asking whoever else is there 'what yous doing for lunch?' or 'mind if i tag along for lunch?'. People usually wont refuse. Do that once or twice and then take it as a given that you will be with them and then ask 'where will I meet you guys for lunch' or something? Thats what I did anyway.
Open up a self defence or fencing society  People will love to join!!

If it's not too personal, what college do you go to? I can check up the societies there already.

I don't know. People ask this kind of thing a lot, and I think you'd have to be some kind of genius social engineer to proactively change a situation like this around.

Jesus, that was quick. Are you some kind of genius social engineer or something? That's really bloody clever. I'll have to remember that one.

just look out for other people on there own and stick with them or just sit with the same person at lunch you sit next to in your class - at least you've got something in common. just ask if you can tag along even if you don't say much, people are not that harsh.

however, the thing is there are so many cliques in my college (silly i know) and no offence but i feel uncomfortable around hippies, goths etc etc.

i did the stevie wonder on the telephone dance for two years straight whenever wherever i could and it needless to say provoked mixed responses.

the what you doing for lunch idea is more flawless.

I am in a similar situation as you, cept im in 2nd year and my list of "friends" wears thing.

The strangest thing after reading this thread though lol is of all the societies I joined last year Fencing is the one ive found myself coming back to this year..in fact as i type this im just after coming home from it. And the strangest thing was I actually had fun, and interacted more with people unlike I did last year. Ive adopted this mindset where Im so far out of the loop that no matter what I do I cant really get much further out of it, and in the end tonight I came away, not exactly with friends but a satisfied feeling that I at least interacted with newer people, and hopefully over time that will grow....Im no expert lol but go with the fencing suggestion, if anything at least its a killer workout in itself *falls asleep*

Wear an interesting hat.
I have to say, there is some damn good thread****ting going on in here  I think some people see the name "Anonymous", and it confuses their inner lizard-brain into thinking they're back at a certain other forum. It's definitely a temptation I sometimes have to fight off (usually I don't resist at all).
