At uni fat away from home. Wanting to move back.

I took a place at uni X even though its over 400 miles from home as I thought I'd have more fun living away from home. I've been out every night, met loads of new people and enjoyed myself for breif periods.

However its taken travelling all this way again for it to dawn on me that I actually HATE being this far away from home. I hate being in a different country and being this far away from the people who love me. Its taken me to actualy come here to realize what I want; and I dont want this.

I had an unconditional to another university, Y, before I met my conditional to come to universty X. I've only been here 6 days but I know what I want. I know I cant be happy this far away from my girlfriend and my parents. How early should I look into getting a transfer to university Y, is it even possible? I'd really appreciate some opinions.

THanks.

Umm i was there a weekish, i just said i am not enjoying it up here, i wasnt eating or anything.
If you want to move, it would have to be sooner rather than later!
Cos the courses will have started.

Yeh I'm just not enjoying the new city, part of me thinks I should sit it out for a little while but also I agree that it does need to be sooner rather than later.

I'm just worried that my parents will try and convince me to wait longer and I dont know how to convince them that I can't be happy here and it will have an adverse effect on my performance.

And yes, I'm FAR Away from home.

Yeah i just thought to myself, do i want to be up there for 3-4years?
Well i thought id rather decide within 2 weeks, than in 3 months, as it would be harder to change.
Well my parents understood, my dad understood from go, but mum took convincing, but if i didnt want to be up there, then why stick it out.
Thats what i thought i didnt want to be up there miserable.

What a Freudian title.

I might be being dumb, but what is Freudian about that title?

The use of the word "fat" instead of "far", possibly implying an underlying problem which the OP wasn't planning on revealing. Not that the OP is fat, but it's funny when you consider that they might be.

Any other opinions on which path I should take?

Fact of the mater is I know that I dont want to stay here for 4 years, surley thats news enough to transfer?
4 years? So is it Edinburgh then? In which case I might recommend perservering, great city.

mate, do what you feel is right .
Dont be worried what your parents say, if it isnt for you, then they cant say anything.
You dont want to be miserable for 4 years.

I would stay for the first year anyway. That way you know for sure. Even if it is a miserable time, let's face it, taking out holidays you only have about 7/8 month to go. At least you will have a qualification out of it and credits to transfer to your uni of choice. You may even be glad that you didn't move by the end of the year. These things do take time to get used to.

Thats really strange that you knew I was talking about edinburgh for completely the wrong reasongs.

Im thinking of transfering to Edinburgh, at which the course is 5 years. I grew up in Edinburgh my whole life. I've traveled down to england to a uni which in the individual league tables is better at my subject however I dislike the city.
