surley its harder to transfer once I've waited a year?

I would doubt it. My uni took me straight into second year cause I had an HNC.

does anyone know who I would go about contacting at my uni to talk this through with?

Thats really strange that you knew I was talking about edinburgh for completely the wrong reasongs.

Im thinking of transfering to Edinburgh, at which the course is 5 years. I grew up in Edinburgh my whole life. I've traveled down to england to a uni which in the individual league tables is better at my subject however I dislike the city.

Ah I see. I don't know what it's like if you'd lived there your whole life, cos I appreciate Cambridge less given I've lived here for ages, but It's a great city so you were maybe sad to leave? I did the reverse thing, went from here up to there, but I was way to stressed to deal with it and couldn't really appreciate Edinburgh much at the time. However I guess I can see that you might have an attachment to your home country, I felt like that at times. Tell me, do you have trouble with English folk at all?

Do you have a DOS(director of studies) or personal tutor?

probably, I havn't met him yet though. I'll have a search for his email online.
I dont have a problem with English people, I just didn't expect to be the only Scottish one.

mainly just being so far away from everyone I Know and not being able to go back when I want to.

I just feel like if I went to edinburgh and *shruggs* stayed with my parents that things would be a lot easier. I woulnd't be in a mountains worth of debt and would be in the right frame of mind to study.

 Wow...that's really got me thinking  . I decided to go to uni from home...yet everybody kept telling me that I'd hate it...and that i should go away and get a REAL experience. And I was almsot convinced  . But hearing about people that go and wish they didnt' has really got me thinking. Staying at home is cheaper...possibly easier and I won't have to put up with missing people and wondering what people are up to...and being far away from family and friends. After all...I've only ever been away from home at two weeks most and i get extremely bored and irritated with new places after just a week...three-four years would probably kill me. I think it's wiser for me to study at uni from home...:tsr2:

The only thing thats keeping me from wanting to transfer is that I feel like such a **** for coming all this way only to go back a couple weeks later.

That's the last thing to worry about. Just do what's right for you. Edinburgh's a great place to be, btw.

My parents are being less supportive than I want them to be.
When I phone them up they just tell me that I'm only homesick and that I'll want to stay soon. I know that I wont. One of the main reasons I want to transfer is the mountains of debt I would be in here where as it would be free tuition at the other university.

Also they tell me that I'd have to live away from home at the other university anyway. How do I convince them or even just tell them that I want to stay at home?
