Durham Union Society Ball

Is anyone part of the Union Society going to the ball in November? I'm a fresher at St Aidan's and I've joined the Society, but the ball is bloody expensive! It sounds good but is it really worth it?

Is it usual to join and miss a big social like this?

I work at Auckland Castle where the ball is held. It's a decent event, though I'm not sure how much you're expected to pay for it?

You get pretty good standard food and all that, it's an amazing venue! The only thing is that the bar is pretty expensive (especially compared to student prices!). Just depends what you fancy, and I wouldn't say that you'd miss much socialising because everyone tends to go in groups of friends from college or whatever and get a table together. If you have a group of mates who want to go, it would be good, but if not then don't worry about missing out!

Yes I'm a member of the Union Society but have never been to the Masquerade Ball. In past years this was due to expense but this year I don't have many friends to go with, or those who I do have probably don't want to go.
