Sweating/Cold Tolerance

Hi,

I think I may have some kind of a problem, maybe a bit more serious than usual. I don't know. I'd really like to get some advice from you guys - I'll talk to my GP soon but my guess is it's useless.

This is kind of embarassing from an angle.

Basically, I sweat a lot. Whenever I do the slightest bit of physical work, or if it is a bit warmer than my "optimum" I start to pour down with sweat all overy my body - my face, my legs, my torso etc. It's really annoying as my clothes start to smell fast and it feels uncomfortable. I am overweight by about 25kgs but I know people fatter than me who don't sweat when faced with similar amounts of "strain" (i.e. on a treadmill, on the same speed for the same time this guy I know who weighs 110kgs (less than me)sweats quite a bit, but my shirt looks like it's straight out of a washing machine). I am quite unfit but I know people who are less fit than I am and don't sweat nearly as much so it can't be it.

It doesn't just happen during exercise. If I concentrate too hard on something, I start to sweat too.

The other thing is - I'm very "tolerant" to cold. I was walking around the city with this other guy and we were both in t-shirts. He was shaking and I was just normal - and then he showed me his hand and it was pale/with a lot of goosebumps and my hand was normal... I always enjoy cold temperatures, partly because it helps on the sweating, and partly because it feels better to me. Me and my mum always argue about whether to turn on the heating or not.

Another symptom that may be linked is stretch marks - I'm tall and not that fat, yet I have quite a bit. I spoke to a doctor about it before and she told me that there is some kind of a brain hormone imbalalance that also makes people more susceptible to stretch marks.

And I also remember from GCSE science that there is a gland in the brain that controls body temperature?

I was wondering if anyone had something similar, or if anyone more knowledgable could make a connection.

Might be a case of me being too fat or too unfit but like I said - I know people a lot heavier who sweat less... and everyone I know loves hot weather, seaside and basking in the sun or whatever, but I hate it. When I think of an ideal holiday it's usually winter time in the swiss alps or something. I also have very white skin (but not albinism). I literally sleep with an open window in the winter (and don't get sick either  ). My mum always shouts at me for that...

Thanks

maybe you could try asking that doctor about it? :P not convinced anyone here would really know anything that could help you
I have this exact problem. Literally, just walking round the shops once and my shirt starts getting damp, and it's seriously annoying >_<

I can comfortably walk around in the snow in short sleeves, but I really can't stand warm days, I just overheat and it's horrible :frown:
ithink you need to loose weight. then see if that makes a difference. Seriously, no wonder your sweating.
im the same except my sweating has slowed down abit over the last 6 months (im 18) but im very tolerant to the cold and love it... im t-shirt and shorts all year round while my mates wear 3 layers in the winter... im like a radiator
How about for people who aren't overweight? I hate being warm and I only begin to feel uncomfortably cold when my hands have already gone red and blue. I don't sweat any more than other people do when they're too warm, it's just that I feel too warm earlier.

I don't know if it's something medical, really - I mean, I know so many people who are the opposite, and people with no preference to warm or cold. But it is annoying.

Lol, when I mentioned it to my GP he said, without a second of thought that I'm paranoid.

Link to stretch marks, anyone?

I have the exact same thing. I'm quite unfit and overweight at the moment, but I've been fairly fit at various times in my life. The sweating is a bit worse when I'm unfit, but I've always had the cold tolerance (sleep with open windows, t-shirt, shorts and bare feet in snow etc). I think some of us just have our body thermostats set differently to others. A bit annoying in summer, but probably nothing to worry about, and any inconvenience in summer is outweighed in winter, for me at least.
As for stretch marks, I have some on my arms, but they appeared when I once got really into doing pull ups every day and my arms got a lot bigger quite quickly, so I've no idea if theres a link.
