Cheapest website for second hand uni books?

Couldnt see a thread but if there is one sorry!

Just wonderinf if anyone have any suggestions for good sites to find cheap second hand books. I have to buy 4 each retailing at £40 each and i'd rather pay a reduced price for second hand if possible!

Have put listings on facebook, aswell as looked round a personal university conference but just wondering if anyone have any external websites that they can recommend.

Cheers,

Matt

Try asking your department to set up a meeting between your year and the year above so that you can buy books from them. That's what we did last year. The year above you will be happy to get some money back for the books they paid £40 for last year.
^^All good suggestions there. Also, you don't say what course you're doing, but check whether it's really important for you to have the latest editions of textbooks. If it isn't, get the previous one - they're often half the price. (Obv for stuff like politics etc don't touch outdated books with a bargepole )

Yeh, but other ones it really doesn't matter, like I needed a book on organsiational structure within businesses and I bought the outdated version, only by one edition, as it really did not make any difference and was like half price as 99p said.

Actually Bookfinder is more like a search engine that searches places like Alibris or ABE in order to help you compare prices. It's still quite a handy website for finding stuff, though.
Yeah, and it searches lots of second-hand book sites to give you the cheapest price...
have looked round a few sites, but in the end have just bought new from amazon

many looked cheap at first, say £22 for a RRP £38 book..but then they say £8 P+P, so you only save £8 in the end. Which might sound great, but id rather have a guaranteed delivery in great condition for that kind of saving.

plus the Royal Mail strike will affect many ebay purchases, even though its looking like the strike is ending, they will have a huge backlog of things to clear.

I buy my books used from sellers on amazon.co.uk, you can't be certain how long they'll take to arrive but they're cheap and often in very good condition.
I get mine from the amazon marketplace. We also have a campus shop called John Smith's who do second hand books. They have a website: http://www.jscampus.co.uk/shop/

We have that at Sussex as well on campus, I find they're pretty expensive though, which is why I just trawl Amazon and look for bargains.

Hey all, I have recently completed my undergraduate degree in psychology and I have 3 years worth of books I'm looking to sell. So guys if you know anyone about to start thier course I'm willing to sell all my books for less than half the price, they are in excellent condition:smile:

Hi,

It's probably not the best thing to advertise on here - you are better off selling them on an online site or in your local area.

This thread is also a good number of years old! It's recommended to open a new thread rather than resurrect threads older than 6 months.
