Can someone help? I don't understand the effects that ionic radius and ionic charge have on the strength of ionic bonding. Thank you

Ionic bonding is fundamentally just electrostatic attraction between differently charged ions.

F = Q q r^(-2)

F= force (bond strength)
Q, q = charges on ions
r = distance between ions

So larger ionic charge (larger q or Q) will increase the strength of the bond.
Smaller ionic raidus can reduce the distance between the ions, and strengthen the bond. Large radius increases the distance > weakens the bond.

In a really basic way, smaller and more highly charged ions result in a stronger ionic bond.
Smaller ions pack closer together which increases the electrostatic attraction between the ions and therefore the strength of the ionic bond.
More highly charged ions have a stronger electrostatic attraction because the charges attract each other more strongly, therefore increasing the strength of the ionic bond.
