Stay warm, drink lots of water and get lots of sleep.

Other than that, you pretty much just have to sit it out.
My mum said tht ''Vicks First Defence'' stuff is pretty good to stop a cold from progressing.

Bt other than that - just do what the previous poster said.

i have allergies, so am really used to trying to get rid of cold symptoms.
take vitamin c tablets, drink orange juice and sleep as much as possible!
my mum always says to gargle with tea tree oil to kill the infection...it, however, tastes disgusting!!
hope you get better soon

oh, and as previous posts have said... keep warm!! and drink lots of water
Once you actually start having symptoms it's too late to stop the cold from progressing. However, drink lots of water, stay warm (unless you have a fever, as being too warm will only make it worse), take decongestants and/or Nurofen if you need to, and rest.

Echinacea is good for colds (tastes horrible though).

I think I'm starting one too. :frown:

I'm probably being really, really foolish but I always seem to neglect colds and just hope they go away. I've had dry coughs and the sniffles for over a month now and I can't really 'sit it out' because it's freshers week.

I agree with the Vicks First Defence stuff, although your room will end up smelling like your grans'. Other than that, just don't go around in t-shirts and shorts.

as the old saying goes...feed a cold, starve a flu

Yeah as above poster said, echinacea is a great supplement.
My friend suggested it to me last year, and I laughed it off, it does, however, work a treat! Stops my colds getting really bad. I started developing a cold a couple days ago, still taking my echinacea tablet once a day and all i have is a cough so far  *prays we dont get any more ill*
Beechams powders are also very good. And lots of water and sleep

The common cold is a virus and has no known cure, so the best you can do is look after your body while your immune system fights it. That means lots of water and rest, and a reasonable amount to eat etc. You may find that it helps to take paracetamol but this will only treat the symptoms and won't affect the course of the cold.

Get well soon!
