Anyone wanting an annual enjoyable moment, watch Cambridge slide downhill each year on the QS.

Although of course it's not funny - British universities are generally going down in the international rankings and the reason is simple - cash.

To my statement you responded 'don't make me laugh'

Condescending by definition - having or showing an attitude of patronizing superiority.

Yes, you're being condescending

So, you first attack me for being 'ridiculous', then criticise me for being a hypocrite because I was 'condescending'. And then totally ignore the main point of your first to focus on something totally secondary.

Right... [at least make sure you're not a hypocrite yourself before calling others so].

And the 'don't make me laugh' I meant seriously - Surrey's webpage reeks of an inferiority complex.

Kind of expected that. :teehee:

I did say most UK universities are falling by world standards.

It's not an ad. A digital marketing dude says ranked #1 in University Marketing Team SEO

(But yeah... )

Nah - there's a website ranking for universities here: http://www.webometrics.info/en/Europe/United%20Kingdom QMUL are "only" 12th in the UK (but 9th for "openness" )

Is making a comparison between the teaching staff of LSE and Plymouth not ridiculous? I beg to differ.

It can only add to the effect, given that the plug is already being pulled on many research budgets and projects that UK universities could have normally expected to be engaged in.

Care to name some of these projects? Or was you just parroting the fashionable line?

Very cool list!

I'm genuinely surprised O*ford is ahead of Cambridge. I much prefer the tabs site.

It started a year ago, so it must be much worse now.
https://www.theguardian.com/education/2016/jul/12/uk-scientists-dropped-from-eu-projects-because-of-post-brexit-funding-fears

The government themselves admit it will be billions.
https://eandt.theiet.org/content/articles/2016/12/uk-to-lose-billions-in-eu-research-funding-after-brexit/

As many as 3/4 of EU academics working in the UK are planning to leave.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/0/will-brexit-impact-british-universities/

Honestly, kippers are so completely out of touch with reality. We are going down the pan and the Brexiteers are to blame.

https://www.rcs.ac.uk/ got silver - looks like HEAT magazine
http://www.glos.ac.uk/Pages/default.aspx got bronze....looks like a youtube channel

I am not the target demographic though so what do I know

That data is interesting about things like Google Scholar citations.

It's amazing to see that UK universities make up 9 of the top 20 in Europe (the whole of Europe) on that site.

Well, then you get the Surrey point too.

You didn't make any point at all. You said my point is bad because it is extreme. That doesn't make it bad, nor does it qualify as an explanation.

The poster I replied to did not make any qualifications, hence I used a rather extreme point for matters of simplicity. Using Surrey wouldn't have changed the substance.

Jeez.
Makes me laugh when people argue about what university is better.

It's normally the oxbridge rejects who ended up at one of the London unis complaining about how highly ranked some non RG unis such as Loughborough, Lancaster or Surrey are.
These people have massive inferiority complexes. Don't listen to them.

There's a reason universities like Surrey, Lancaster and Loughborough are ranked so highly, because they are simply better than the universities below them, when we look at all the factors involved in judging whether university is good.

When people say 'research quality' is all that's matters, they're also lying, and probably just upset that due to the absolutely dreadful teaching standards, and the fact half the people who attend the university want to kill themselves, their university isn't as highly ranked as they expected. *cough*LSE*cough*.
You may have a higher average starting salary than me, (approximately £2000 more, for people on my course, and I don't even go to a Russell group), but unlike you, I had a good time at university, whilst you were busy shopping for nooses on amazon the night before your lectures.

Do a course that you know is good for YOU, not just for your EGO. My course is perfect, and I can honestly say, with the exceptions of maybe Oxford and Cambridge, there's no other university in the U.K. I'd prefer to be at.

These 'rejects' are still excellent students for the most part, so using this in a negative way means nothing.

The only one who appears to have an inferiority complex is you to be honest. It's the only way this rant can be explained.

Oh deary me this just reeks of insecurity.

Weird how you chose not to mention which uni you got aaaaaaand guess what, you go to loughborough.

Crap unis like loughborough, lancaster and others only get to the top because of satisfaction. Top uni students are laughing at it because at the end of the day, most reputable employers will choose LSE over loughborough. You seem to want to go into IB, which is even more discriminative based on uni.

You're butthurt and salty, but dont come here misleading ppl into thinking they should choose Loughborough over LSE, at the end of the day its loughborough begging for RG rejects to come there.

Never said they weren't excellent students. A lot of them are just incredibly salty about being rejected/not being good enough for their dream university, hence the inferiority complex. They have to let it out on universities below them, of which they know NOTHING about.

I never see an oxford/Cambridge student complaining about how highly ranked Surrey, Lboro and Lancaster are. It's always the unis just below. Oxbridge students have nothing to prove. Most students I've seen from the London unis are arrogance personified (not all).

If I had an inferiority complex, I wouldn't readily admit that all the London unis I'm talking about are better than my university in terms of academics. (They are higher ranked, after all), I'd still rather be at my university, as its perfect for ME.
