Should UEA be a Russel Group University?

The University of East Anglia is now 12th in the complete university guide ranking, and overall it is just a wonderful institution. So is it time to add UEA into a group that claims to have the leading universities of the UK?

Do you attend / did attend UEA?
Isnt it by application? have they applied to join?

No. RG universities are mainly comprised of universities funded for their research in subject areas such as Science, and being part of the RG name wouldn't make a huge difference, it's best remaining out of it as RG doesn't always equal to it being better than non RG universities. Should such an offer for UEA arise where RG feels the need to accept them in the group then that's fair enough, but I should think with it being out of RG, it is regarded as one of the better universities should you be applying for non RG universities.

Im in my first year at UEA, and being apart of the Russel Group seems to add prestige to a university in the eys of some people.

When I went to the open day I'm pretty sure they mentioned that they weren't even interested in joining the RG. So probably not.

Back in the day I did my degree at UEA. I'm so glad it hasn't bowed down to RG self-aggrandizement. It's a wonderful university, the teaching I received was outstanding, and I've never felt my degree to be 'lesser than' any RG I institution. My question would simply be RG...why?
